Hee-joo speaks to Sa-eon for the first time in a heartfelt scene in When the Phone Rings episode 7

In this scene from When the Phone Rings episode 7, Hee-joo is rushed to the hospital after surviving a fall from a cliff. She lies unconscious in the hospital and begins to dream about her traumatic past.

She recalls an accident that took her stepbrother’s life and left her stepsister deaf. Her mother’s insistence that she should pretend to be mute flashes through her mind. These memories disturb her even in her unconscious state.

Amid this turmoil, Sa-eon’s voice pierces through her subconscious. He calls her name, and memories of him flood her mind. She recalls him rescuing her after the fall, sharing food with her as a child, protecting her from a dog, and even confessing his feelings for her in a drunken moment.

In her unconscious thoughts, Hee-joo reflects on her feelings for Sa-eon:

"There was you. When no one else cared about me, you noticed me. Whenever I was scared, you ran over to save me. Even when I said nothing, even I whe didn’t cry out for help you were the only one who listened to me. But why I couldn't bring myself to tell, that I too feel the same towards you?"

Tears stream down her face as she wrestles with these emotions.

Sa-eon notices her tears and wipes them away. Hee-joo then slowly opens her eyes and sees him gazing at her with concern. Seeing her waking up, Sa-eon asks if she can hear him and moves to call the doctor. However, before he can leave, Hee-joo grabs his hand and pleads in a trembling voice:

"Don't go."

Sa-eon freezes as he is shocked to hear her speak in front of him for the first time. She pleads again, shaking her head with tears in her eyes. Sa-eon sits beside her while holding her hand and reassures her, saying:

"Okay. I won't go, I won’t go anywhere."

He caresses her hair and whispers, "You're okay now," before placing a kiss on her hand.
