South Korean actor Uhm Tae-goo recently admitted feeling genuinely frightened while watching episode 2 of Light Shop, the supernatural K-drama series on Disney+. A netizen posted an exclusive interview of the My Sweet Mobster actor on the Korean online forum, TheQoo, where he made his confession.
“At some point, I watched but I had to mute the sound. Was it episode 2? It was the scene in the school on a rainy night, with a mysterious student sitting there — I’m sorry, but I had to skip it. I mean just the combination of ‘night’ and ‘school’ was scary enough, but adding an unknown student sitting there, I just couldn’t handle that," Uhm Tae-goo said.
Known for its eerie storytelling and emotional depth, Light Shop has captivated audiences with its unique narrative. Uhm Tae-goo's confession reflected the intense atmosphere created by the show's team, led by director Kim Hee-won. Significantly, the series is based on Kang Full's webtoon of the same name.
Uhm Tae-goo and Kim Seol-hyun's love story in Light Shop meets a gutwrenching end
The drama begins with a mystical shop selling lights that illuminate more than physical darkness—they reveal hidden emotions, suppressed memories, and unresolved conflicts. The shop acts as a gateway between the living and the dead.
In episodes 1-4 of Light Shop, Hyun-min (Uhm Tae-goo) was seen coming across a mysterious woman who would always wait at the bus stop throughout the night. After a few times, he approached her and offered her help to contact someone who could come pick her up. This led to a chill-inspiring episode 2 where the woman, played by Kim Seol-hyun, was revealed as a ghost.
In Light Shop finale episodes 7-8, Hyun-min, who returned from a coma after a fatal bus accident became bound to a wheelchair, plagued by fragmented memories of an accident. Ji-young’s (Kim Seol-hyun) ghost haunts him, seeking acknowledgment of their past connection.
Tensions were heightened as Hyun-min threw away items tied to his past, desperate to forget it. In the finale, Ji-young becomes a vengeful spirit after realizing Hyun-min did not remember her. Hyun-min, frustrated and desperate, tossed his phone—a symbol of his past—into the river, signaling his desire to move on.
The story concludes with bittersweet closure for some characters while leaving others haunted, literally and figuratively. The final scenes are both heart-wrenching and open-ended. Ji-young’s spirit, unable to move on, stayed with Hyun-min, suggesting her transformation into a ghostly guardian or tormentor.
Hyun-min, consumed by his guilt and loss, struggled to rebuild his life. Sun-hae (Kim Min-ha) embraced her fate, choosing eternal peace with her partner in the afterlife. Hyun-ju (Shin Eun-soo) adapted to her new abilities, and Detective Sung-sik (Bae Seong-woo) began a new chapter, working to resolve lingering ghostly conflicts.
A mid-credit scene tied the series to Kang Full’s broader webtoon universe, featuring a cameo from Hui-soo (Go Youn-jung) of Moving. This suggested a potential crossover or a sequel.
The star-studded cast of Light Shop includes:
- Uhm Tae-goo as Hyun-min, a man tormented by memory loss and his connection to a ghostly presence.
