Shin Min-a's latest K-drama, No Gain No Love, starring Kim Young-dae aired on the South Korean OTT platform TVING from August 26 to October 1, 2024. In an interview with Star News Korea, the 40-year-old actress shared that she was drawn to Son Hae-yeong's character in No Gain No Pain, a calculative woman who hates to lose money.

In order to receive the congratulations money from everyone she previously gave celebratory wedding money to, she marries Kim Ji-wook (Kim Young-dae). Furthermore, since only married women were considered for the task force team leader role at the company she worked for, she set up a fictitious wedding to receive her entire money back and get a promotion at work.

Meanwhile, when Star News Korea asked her what her long-time partner, South Korean actor Kim Woo-bin, thought of her new K-drama and her character, Shin Min-a revealed that she wasn't uncomfortable. She added that Kim Woo-bin found her new drama "fun to watch," however, out of respect for her co-star Kim Young-dae, she refused to discuss about her personal life.

"To be honest, I don’t feel uncomfortable about the topic itself, but I do get worried that it might affect what each of us is doing. For example, No Gain No Love was a rom-com and there were viewers supporting the main couple in the show. So I would refrain from talking about [my real-life relationship] out of respect for my co-star."

Shin Min-a shares how she worked to give her character Son Hae-yeong from No Gain No Love an edge

No Gain No Love arrived more than two years after Shin Min-a's last K-drama, Our Blues, released in April 2022. The 2022 K-drama gained global praise for its storyline and also starred Kim Woo-bin as one of the lead actors. However, Shin Min-a's character was paired with Lee Byung-hun. In real life, Shin Min-a and Kim Woo-bin have been in a relationship since 2015.

Meanwhile, the Hometown Cha Cha Cha actress shared that for her character, Son Hae-yeong, she observed closely how men swear in real life. Son Hae-yeong is a quick-witted, blunt, and honest woman, who is exceptional at her job and handles every situation without a care in this world. She is practical and doesn't shy away from anything.

"I wanted to swear properly. I thought it would be awkward, so I paid more attention to my emotions. I did it based on the way men swear. I did it while watching the chemistry between men who swear well. It was more fun than I thought. I think it would have been boring without it."

Shin Min-a continued that since her new drama was released on the OTT platform, TVING, she had to learn cuss words to deliver accurately in the show. She said,

"If it were a different project, I could have used kind words because of the censorship, but there was an advantage to doing it with OTT. I think the character's color came across well because I was able to express that part passionately."

No Gain No Love is available on TVING and Prime Video.
