On October 8, blog website Pannatic revealed via X the list of the world’s worst fandoms, with BTS' ARMY holding one of the top two spots, while Taylor Swift's Swifties held the other top spot. The latest survey of worst fandoms was based on the votes of Reddit users.
The rationale provided for the BTS' ARMY being one of the worst fandoms was that Reddit users believe they are problematic, partly due to their substantial size and presence across the globe. Also, Swifties were rated as the worst pop star fandom because they allegedly harassed people online, including singers, producers, and commoners.
Netizens reacted to the latest survey and flooded the Korean media platform Qoo with their comments. Also, several internet users seemed to be in support of the list. One Qoo user expressed:
"I don't really want to deny that it's for Army 1. I think there are some people who just don't like it because they don't like it when they see a tweet that the member's birthday silt is on it."
Many other reactions were seen on Qoo. Some called it polarizing, while others dubbed the ranking as 'digusting.'
Other fans were upset with the list, as they stood in support of ARMY. Another fan made a sarcastic comment, saying that it's a sin to be popular.
BTS' ARMY was followed by Ariana Grande’s Arianators and Nicki Minaj’s Barbz on the list
After BTS' ARMY and Taylor Swift’s Swifties, other fandoms on the survey list were Ariana Grande’s Arianators, Nicki Minaj’s Barbz, Beyoncé’s Beyhive, Lady Gaga’s Little Monsters, Lana Del Rey’s Reycists, and Harry Styles’ Harries.
Arianators were added to the list as they frequently appeared in social media fights. This fandom is also considered, by the netizens, to be representative of elementary school students.
Nicki’s Barbz were criticized for defending their artist, who married a r*pist and often behaved inhumanely. For the uninitiated, Kenneth Petty is the husband of Nicki and they tied the knot in 2019.
Beyhive is the fandom of Beyoncé. The reason for Beyhive to be on this list was that the singer is frequently referred to as the "Black Queen," and her fans allegedly feel like they're taking part in a BLM protest.
Lady Gaga’s Little Monsters were next, owing to the fandom’s alleged negative attitude while often boasting about how superior Gaga’s artistic side is compared to other global artists. The survey also emphasized how being anti-Gaga was the same as being anti-queer, according to her Little Monsters.
Reycists (Lana Del Rey fans) were thought to be a strange fandom by the netizens, as they combined hipster arrogance with an attitude of dominance common among pop star fandoms.
Harry Styles’ supporters, called Harries, were also on the list. This fandom was said to be even more notorious than the boy groups' fans in Korea, sharing many of the same characteristics.
Earlier, in November 2023, X account Stan Twitter Choice Awards declared that the BTS' ARMY had been named the most hated fandom on Twitter.
ARMYs being claimed as the most hated fanbase in the Stan Choice Awards elicited an unexpectedly enthusiastic response from the BTS fans. They regarded the most despised fandom award as an indication of being among the most renowned fandoms globally.
