Rosé, a global superstar and former BLACKPINK member, is gearing up to unveil her highly anticipated debut solo album, Rosie. Scheduled for release on December 6, 2024, through Atlantic Records and THE BLACK LABEL, the 12-track project showcases her evolution as an artist since stepping into the spotlight with BLACKPINK in 2016.
In her latest interview on Apple Music's The Zane Lowe's Show on December 4, 2024, the 27-year-old K-pop superstar shared how her personal experiences, particularly a toxic relationship from her past, inspired many of the album's tracks. She also reflected on the writing process, describing it as both therapeutic and challenging.
Reflecting on these moments, Rosé admitted that her desire for validation made those relationships unhealthy. Songs like Game Boy and Toxic Till the End were born from this introspection, marking a turning point in her growth as an artist.
The BLACKPINK member revealed a huge fight she had with her ex during a world tour with her bandmates. Although she never mentioned which tour, her fans speculated that it could be the BORN PINK World Tour 2022-2023. She recalled:
"I would actually look at it and be like, ‘Oh my god, this was when I was going through the worst time of my life.' I would be like, ‘I remember that tour, I had the biggest fight...you know...with the ex. I look so good considering how heartbroken I was.'"
More about BLACKPINK's Rosé's upcoming solo album, Rosie, her record deals, and music chart victories
Rosé had long been candid about her journey as a solo artist. While her BLACKPINK bandmates ventured into establishing their respective companies, Rosé released her solo comeback single, APT. with Bruno Mars, under Atlantic Records and became the first female K-pop soloist to enter the Top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100.
In The Zane Lowe Show, she discussed the pressures of meeting fan expectations while staying true to her artistic vision. The singer also opened up about how public scrutiny affected her. Despite years in the limelight, she admitted that harsh comments online occasionally left her feeling insecure.
Rosé revealed that the track, Number One Girl, stemmed from a moment of self-awareness when she realized she was letting external opinions affect her self-worth. She added that listening to her album brought back every memory from her past, but creating it helped her move on. She said:
"When I listen to my songs, I remember every minute of it and how I like went through everything. And without this album, I think I would have carried a lot of the past version of myself through till today. Because to be honest, I am not like really...It was like a therapy session. And I bottled it up into this thing called Rosie."
Rosé's transition to solo work was gradual but impactful. After leaving YG Entertainment in early 2023, she signed with THE BLACK LABEL, a YG affiliate, in June 2024, signaling a new chapter in her career. She also inked a deal with Atlantic Records on September 27, 2024, to distribute her music globally, expanding her reach to Western markets.
Additionally, she partnered with Warner Chappell Music (WCM) in a global administration deal on November 25, 2024, reportedly covering her role as a songwriter and collaborator. Atlantic Records manages her music release deal, while THE BLACK LABEL looks after her artist management deal.
Since debuting with BLACKPINK in 2016, Rosé achieved remarkable personal milestones. Her first solo single album, R, released in 2021, featured the chart-topping hits On The Ground and Gone. On The Ground debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Global 200 and remains the highest-charting song by a solo K-pop female artist on the Billboard Hot 100.
Her recent collaborations also earned her acclaim. APT., her duet with Bruno Mars, broke records as the first song by a K-pop soloist to simultaneously top both the Billboard Global 200 and Global Excl. U.S. charts for four weeks. It also achieved over 100 million streams within days of release.
Rosé described Rosie as her most personal and candid project. She explained that the album's name reflects a nickname used by her close friends and family, giving fans a glimpse into her private world. Previously, in a heartfelt social media post, she wrote:
"I have poured my blood and tears into this album. I cannot wait for you to listen to this little journal of mine. Rosie - is the name I allow my friends and family to call me. With this album, I hope you all feel that much closer to me. And yes, it’s a full-length album."
The album includes the breakout singles APT. featuring Bruno Mars and Number One Girl. Both tracks have seen significant success with APT. topping the Billboard Japan Hot 100 for multiple weeks.
Rosé's debut album features 12 tracks exploring themes of heartbreak, self-discovery, and resilience. The full tracklist includes:
