BLACKPINK's Rosé is set to release her debut solo studio album, Rosie, on December 6, 2024. Ahead of the release, she gave an exclusive interview to PAPER magazine and talked about having toxic relationships in the past. Calling herself an "average girlfriend," Rosé recalled how she had experienced her fair share of tumultuous relations.

“I think I'm grateful enough to have gone through a few relationships, you know, like a normal girl in her 20s. I do want people to understand that I'm not much different from your average girlfriend, or 23-year-old girl.”

The BLACKPINK member added that she wants to create songs where she can talk more about "any type of toxic relationship," and hoped that her fans could resonate with the lyrics.

“I'm probably very relatable if you listen to my songs, and if anyone's been in that kind of a relationship. It doesn't even have to be about a boyfriend, just any type of toxic relationship. [Your] 20s is not an easy time to live through. It's when you're very vulnerable and confused, excited and angry about life. That's what I wanted to sing about.”

BLACKPINK's Rosé relishes the high from her successful comeback solo single APT. & talks about collaborating with Bruno Mars

On September 27, 2024, she signed a solo partnership deal with Atlantic Records—home to stars like Ed Sheeran, Bruno Mars, Coldplay, Cardi B, Ava Max, and Charli xcx. She released her comeback solo single, APT. under Atlantic Records, also announcing the forthcoming release of her debut solo album in December.

Roseanne Park MBE, well-known by her stage name Rosé, has been dominating music charts with her latest single, APT. with Bruno Mars. The single, which was released on October 18, 2024, secured another week at No. 1 on the Billboard Global 200 (Excl. US) and also topped the Billboard Global 200 chart. She also became the first-ever female Korean act to open at No. 8 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Rosé recounted how she decided to collaborate with Bruno Mars for APT. and everyone else was skeptical whether the Western star would agree to it. The BLACKPINK idol told PAPER how she was adamant to stay the course and sent the song's demo to Bruno Mars, who found it amazing.

“Everyone was like, ‘No, he's not going to do it, don't send it.’ And I was like, ‘No, what the hell!’ It's that song or nothing. Well, he got the memo. I was like, ‘It's a Korean drinking game. He's like, ‘That's sick.’”

The song, APT., is based on a popular Korean drinking game where multiple players stack their hands on top of each other after one player calls out a specific number. The player whose hand comes on top of everyone in the end has to drink.

Meanwhile, the BLACKPINK singer revealed how she would often check social media and end up scrolling for hours and letting negative fan comments affect her. Sharing further about her intention to write songs "so disgustingly vulnerable and honest" that listeners would be able to resonate with them.

“so disgustingly vulnerable and honest that people learn that I am a person that goes through these emotions, and I hated that about myself. If anything, it's something I want to cover up. Even in interviews, I’m like nothing really fazes me, you know? But it does. Every word, every comment, it crushes me.”

BLACKPINK's Rosé also performed the remodeled rendition of Coldplay's Viva La Vida for the Pachinko season 2 episode 8 that aired on Apple TV+ from September to October 2024. The song has yet to hit global music streaming platforms.
