Culinary Class Wars top 3 finalists, Triple Star, aka Scott Kang, appeared on a CBS interview with a fellow contestant, Cooking Maniac, aka Yoon Yoo-nam. During the interview, Scott Kang revealed that he joined the Netflix cooking show competition to make a living. He revealed that due to the recession in the restaurant business in South Korea, he decided to compete in the show.

"Since last year, the restaurant industry has been in a recession, so did we. So as I was worried, since I needed to earn a living anyway, I wanted to try joining the show. More than that, as I've been cooking for a long time, I think my passion has cooled a lot and I needed a new stimulus."

Scott Kang (real name Kang Seung-won) was a sous chef in Ahn Sung-jae's three-starred Michelin restaurant, Mosu Seoul. Ahn Sung-jae was one of the two judges in Culinary Class Wars. Mosu Seoul is South Korea's only restaurant with three Michelin stars. Meanwhile, Scott Kang revealed that he has the utmost respect for Ahn Sung-jae and said,

"I think he is a very perfect person. For a successful person, effort and ability are one, well he is that kind of person. he has made a lot of effort and ability, and he is the person I respect the most. Of course, he scolded a lot."

More about Netflix's hit cooking show Culinary Class Wars

Culinary Class Wars aired its first seven episodes on Netflix on September 17, 2024. Three more episodes from 8 to 10 were released on October 1, and the last two finale episodes were dropped on Netflix on October 8. The Korean reality cooking show focused on 80 cooks from various backgrounds competing against 20 world-class renowned celebrity chefs.

80 cooks called Black Spoons were given a nickname as they couldn't reveal their real identities. Only the top finalists could disclose their real names. Meanwhile, the 20 renowned chefs were called White Spoons. In the first episode, 60 Black Spoons were eliminated in Round 1, and only 20 made it to the second tier. They went toe-to-toe with the 20 White Spoons in a grilling competition.

Cooking Maniac and Triple Star were among the top 20 Black Spoon chefs who made it to the top 4 before getting eliminated. However, the show's two finalists were White Spoon Edward Lee (real name Lee Kyun) and Black Spoon Napoli Matfia (real name Kwon Sung-jun). The show's winner was Napoli Matfia.

Triple Star, aka Scott Kang, had previously worked in three Michelin restaurants such as Benu, Atelier Crenn, and Ahn Sung-jae's Mosu Seoul. Meanwhile, he runs his contemporary Seoul-based fine-dine restaurant, Trid. Additionally, Cooking Mania, aka Yoon Yoo-nam, is the head chef at Deepin in Seoul.
