On January 7, 2025, Coupang Play released the official trailer and poster of its upcoming K-drama, Newtopia, starring BLACKPINK's vocalist Jisoo. Fans of the K-pop idol have been eagerly anticipating her return to the small screen.

Newtopia is set to premiere on February 7, 2025. It is a comedy zombie series that delves into the lives of Lee Jae-yoon, portrayed by Park Jeong-min, and his girlfriend Kang Young-joo, played by Jisoo. The narrative follows the couple as they deal with the challenges of a sudden zombie outbreak in Seoul, testing their relationship and resilience.

The trailer for Newtopia, released on January 6, 2025, showcases a blend of romance, humor, and zombie apocalypse. It trailer opens with protagonist Lee Jae-yoon navigating a chaotic Seoul overrun by zombies.

Amidst the turmoil, he encounters his girlfriend, Kang Young-joo, who is armed with unconventional weapons like frying pans and umbrellas. Their comedic attempts to fend off zombies, coupled with witty banter, set the tone for the series.

The romantic moments combined with slapstick humor suggest that the upcoming K-drama aims to offer a fresh take on the zombie genre. Upon the trailer's release, fans flooded social media with a mix of astonishment and amusement. One fan commented:

Newtopia is set in a post-apocalyptic Seoul, where a sudden zombie outbreak forces ordinary individuals to become unlikely heroes.

The series follows Lee Jae-yoon, a man grappling with insecurities about his future after a late military enlistment, and his girlfriend, Kang Young-joo, an engineer starting her first job. Together, they embark on a perilous journey through the zombie-infested city.

BLACKPINK Jisoo will portray Kang Young-joo in the upcoming Coupang Play drama. Additionally, Park Jeong-min will be seen as Lee Jae-yoon (Young-joo's boyfriend) in the new series. The actor is recognized for his performances in Hellbound and Smugglers.

Director Yoon Sung-hyun, renowned for his work on Bleak Night and Time to Hunt, aims to redefine the zombie genre by infusing it with humor and heart. The series also features Im Sung-jae, Hong Seo-hee, and Tang Jun-sang.

Newtopia marks Jisoo's second major acting project, following her debut in Snowdrop. In the 2021 series, she has portrayed Eun Yeong-ro, a university student who becomes entangled in a forbidden romance during South Korea's political turmoil in 1987. The series also stars Jung Hae-in as Im Soo-ho, a mysterious graduate student with a hidden agenda.

Beyond Newtopia, the BLACKPINK star is set to make her film debut in The Prophet: Omniscient Reader, scheduled for release in July 2025. The film is an adaptation of the popular web novel, Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint, by Sing N Song.

The plot centers on Kim Dok-ja (Ahn Hyo-seop), an ordinary office worker who discovers that his favorite web novel has become a reality. As the sole reader aware of the unfolding events, he collaborates with the novel's protagonist, Yoo Jung-hyuk (Lee Min-ho), to navigate the challenges of this new world and prevent its impending destruction.

The film features an impressive cast, including:
