Jeongnyeon: The Star is Born, starring Kim Tae-ri, Shin Ye-eun, Jung Eun-chae, Ra Mi-ran, and many more, aired episodes 5 and 6 on October 26 and 27, respectively, on tvN. In Jeongnyeon: The Star is Born episode 5, Yoon Jeong-nyeon learned that her mother Seo Yong-rye (Moon So-ri) was a popular pansori singer Choi Gong-seon from Park Jong-guk.
She realized that he was using her as bait to make Choi Gong-seon come back to the industry. Park Jong-guk threatened her that since she had signed a contract, she could not quit her job; otherwise, she would have to pay a penalty.
In the recent developments of Jeongnyeon: The Star is Born, Kang So-bok (Ra Mi-ran), the director of Maeran Gugeuk Theater Troupe, saved Yoon Jeong-nyeon from Park Jong-guk. She paid the penalty and took her back to the dorm.
This was after Kang So-bok learned that Yoon Jeong-nyeon sang at a café to help Hong Joo-ran (Woo Da-vi) and not to earn money under Maeran's name. Meanwhile, Heo Young-seo makes efforts to pass the audition for the Jamyunggo play to gain her mother's acknowledgement.
Jeongnyeon: The Star is Born ep 5-6 recap: Heo Young-seo helps Yoon Jeong-nyeon for the Jamyunggo audition
In Jeongnyeon: The Star is Born episode 5, Yoon Jeong-nyeon and Hong Joo-ran were punished for singing outside the theater troupe, and their penalty was to complete all the household chores before entering practice sessions. Yoon Jeong-nyeon prepared for a supporting role of a soldier, and the night before the audition she went to the props and costume storage room. In there she fell asleep, and someone locked her from the outside.
The next day, when Yoon Jeong-nyeon woke up, she realized she was locked and tried to escape the room from a small window. Heo Young-seo, who auditioned for the antagonist's role, looked for Yoon Jeong-nyeon and helped her get out of the room. After the audition, Yoon Jeong-nyeon thanked Heo Young-seo and hugged her, but the latter told the former not to get any wrong ideas. Heo Young-seo said she only helped Yoon Jeong-nyeon to see if she could genuinely act on stage or was lucky like in the previous play.
By the end of Jeongnyeon: The Star is Born episode 5, Yoon Jeong-nyeon and Heo Young-seo passed the auditions. Meanwhile, Hong Joo-ran got the role of the spy named Precious. Yoon Jeong-nyeon observed Heo Young-seo practice the role of the antagonist like the previous actress had depicted, unlike her new version she showed during the audition.
Yoon Jeong-nyeon suggested that Heo Young-seo should do her version, but she stated that the audience may not like it. They started another argument where Yoon Jeong-nyeon told her that she was only trying to impress her mother and not focusing on her skills or enjoying the role. Heo Young-seo replied that it was easy for Yoon Jeong-nyeon to enjoy her character but not for her and that she deserved to play the small role. They ended up challenging each other for future opportunities.
In Jeongnyeon: The Star is Born episode 6, Kang So-bok scolded Heo Young-seo and Hong Joo-ran for being out of sync in coordination of their acts. Hong Joo-ran wanted to practice with Heo Young-seo, but she declined because she believed they had to work on their characters alone.
Later, when Hong Joo-ran and Heo Young-seo started to practice together, Heo Young-seo realized that her style of depicting the antagonist was better. They started to understand their characters and were also successful in forming the interlink between them.
Meanwhile, Yoon Jeong-nyeon dressed up as a high school boy to get into the character of the soldier and went outside to gain inspiration. She eventually found herself volunteering at a military camp, and there she learned about the liberation war tales from the soldiers. Yoon Jeong-nyeon was then able to bring the desperation in her voice required for the role of the soldier.
On the other hand, Moon Ok-gyeong (Jung Eun-chae) spoke to Seo Hye-rang (Kim Yoon-hye) about Yoon Jeong-nyeon getting locked in the storage room. It was previously revealed that Heo Young-seo informed Moon Ok-gyeong about Seo Hye-rang locking Yoon Jeong-nyeon in the room. However, Seo Hye-rang brushed the topic aside, saying that it could have been locked up by itself.
After returning to the dorm, Yoon Jeong-nyeon seemed to be jealous watching Hong Joo-ran and Heo Young-seo getting closer while practicing. Later in Jeongnyeon: The Star is Born episode 6, Heo Young-seo invited her mother to watch the show.
During the play, Heo Young-seo and Hong Joo-ran gained attention from the audience for their performance and chemistry and also surprised the Maeran Troupe members. Watching Moon Ok-gyeong compliment their performance, Yoon Jeong-nyeon appeared to be concerned about her role.
Yoon Jeong-nyeon improvised a part of her act, and two cast members followed her and received a warning from Kang So-bok to not draw attention as her role was small. By the end of Jeongnyeon: The Star is Born episode 6, Yoon Jeong-nyeon made another improvisation and gained attention from the audience. She got stuck in her position, seemingly forgetting her lines, so the audience demanded she sing pansori.
Yoon Jeong-nyeon was reminded of the horrors of the independence war when she lost her father and also the stories she heard from the soldiers who fought the war. In response, Yoon Jeong-nyeon started singing The Soldier's Lament and stunned the cast and crew, despite Kang So-bok’s warning.
