Jeongnyeon: The Star is Born episode 9 began with Yoon Jeong-nyeon (Kim Tae-ri) taken to the hospital after she fainted at the joint performance audition.
Later, Heo Young-seo (Shin Ye-eun) learned that her mother Han Ki-joo (Jang Hye-jin) pulled strings and bribed the judges to get her the role. Han Ki-joo wanted Heo Young-seo to leave the Maeran Troupe and join the National Gukgeuk Troupe. However, Heo Young-seo declined, making Han Ki-joo angry.
Heo Young-seo stood up for herself and told Han Ki-joo about her struggles to get her acknowledgment. She stated that she realized her mother only wanted to show off her skills so that her popular elder sister's image was not ruined.

In the recent developments of Jeongnyeon: The Star is Born, Moon Ok-gyeong walked out of Maeran Troupe to pursue a career in the film industry. At the same time, Seo Yong-rye (Moon So-ri) took Kang Sobok's advice and guided Yoon Jeong-nyeon towards learning pansori even after damaging her vocal cords.
Jeongnyeon: The Star is Born ep 9-10 recap: Yoon Jeong-nyeon returns home while Moon Ok-gyeong faces opium abuse allegations
In Jeongnyeon: The Star is Born episode 9, Kang Sobok explained to Heo Young-seo that her performance was amazing and the judges unanimously picked her as the main male lead character. She told Heo Young-seo not to pay attention to her mother's comments.
Meanwhile, Yoon Jeong-nyeon learned that she may not be able to sing in the future but she was optimistic. She returns to the dorm and is welcomed by Park Cho-rok (Oh My Girl's Seunghee) with her favorite hot buns. She saw Hong Joo-ran (Woo Da-vi) but things are still awkward between them.
Yoon Jeong-nyeon goes on a search for a doctor in hopes of finding a remedy that could fix her voice. A doctor suggested she take opium but she was scared as she believed she would get addicted. Yoon Jeong-nyeon came home and made an opium extract but she was hesitant to drink it.
At the right time, Kang So-bok arrived and stopped her. Kang So-bok stated that she would take her to a doctor who had practiced in the U.S. Kang So-bok was not sure if he would be able to fix her voice but she told Yoon Jeong-nyeon if the doctor is not able to help her she would have to accept her fate.
The next day, the doctor told Yoon Jeong-nyeon that she wouldn't be able to sing like she used to before and Yoon Jeong-nyeon faced difficulty accepting it. After coming back to the dorm, she put on Choi Gong-seon's song and tried singing with pain and tears in her eyes.
This disrupted the joint performance practice and Kang So-bok followed her voice to the room where she was. Kang So-bok tried to stop her by slapping her but Yoon Jeong-nyeon was in complete despair and was unable to accept it. The next day, Yoon Jeong-nyeon returned to her home in Mokpo.
Later, Park Cho-rok informed Seo Hye-rang's wrongdoings since Yoon Jeong-nyeon had left. Kang So-bok told Seo Hye-rang to leave Maeran after the joint performance. Moon Ok-gyeong faced opium abuse allegations and Kang So-bok told her to put out a counter response.
Moon Ok-gyeong admitted using Opium once at the beginning of her career but denied using it recently. She stated that if she was an addict she would not be able to practice longer hours for her performances.
By the end of Jeongnyeon: The Star is Born episode 9, Moon Ok-gyeong complimented Heo Young-seo for her performance at the audition and stated that Yoon Jeong-nyeon was now a lost case as she had already left Maeran Troupe. Moon Ok-gyeong asked Heo Young-seo to leave the troupe with her.
In Jeongnyeon: The Star is Born episode 10, Heo Young-seo declined saying that she is waiting for Yoon Jeong-nyeon to come back so that she can compete with her again. Later, Heo Young-seo and Kang So-bok went to Mokpo to bring Yoon Jeong-nyeon back but as they arrived, Seo Yong-rye threw a mug of water on Kang So-bok asking her to leave.
Meanwhile, Heo Young-seo went to Yoon Jeong-nyeon who was collecting seashells. Heo Young-seo followed Yoon Jeong-nyeon near the seaside. She helped her understand that even if she can't sing like before she still can act and dance on stage.
She said she would wait for her to come back. The next day before Kang So-bok and Heo Young-seo left for Seoul, Yoon Jeong-nyeon promised to go back to Maeran Troupe after obtaining her mother's permission this time.
Later in Jeongnyeon: The Star is Born episode 10, before the first show of the Joint performance, Kang So-bok offered Moon Ok-gyeong to pick any drama and role she liked. This was because Kang So-bok learned that Moon Ok-gyeong was planning to leave the Troupe. On the other hand, Moon Ok-gyeong asked Seo Hye-rang to give her best performance as this would be a legendary show.
After the show went well, Kang So-bok was confident that future shows would be well too. Moon Ok-gyeong informed that she was leaving Gukgeuk, first to Seo Hye-rang and then to Kang So-bok. The two tried to stop her but she left. On a sudden night in Mokpo, Seo Yong-rye noticed Yoon Jeong-nyeon practicing Gukgeuk and Pansuri in the courtyard.
The next day, Seo Yong-rye took Yoon Jeong-nyeon to see the sunrise and told her about a Master of Pansori who also had a damaged voice but managed to earn the title of the master. Seo Yong-rye advised her to fill the void in her voice with pain and sigh. Seo Yong-rye sang a song for Yoon Jeong-nyeon in her damaged voice.
