However, her mother, Seo Yong-rye, played by Moon So-ri, is against it.

Yoon Jeong-nyeon helps her mother sell clams and fish in Mokpo to earn a living. One day, after watching a theater play directed by Kang So-bok (played by Ra Mi-ran), she decided to follow her dreams. Jeong-nyeon runs away from Mokpo to Seoul and joins the Maeran All Female Theater Troupe to become a theater artist. In Jeongnyeon: The Star is Born episode 2, she passes the theater troupe's exam but gets the position of an understudy trainee.

Jeongnyeon: The Star is Born — Yoon Jeong-nyeon runs away with Moon Ok-gyeong to follow her dreams

Jeongnyeon: The Star is Born episode 1 began in 1931 in Gyeongseong, where a young girl, Choi Geong-seon (Lee Ga-eun), and her father were standing outside a house on a snowy night. Her father took her inside and requested that the noblewoman Im Jin (Kang Ji-eun), who lived there, provide them with a space to spend a few nights.

Im Jin agreed and asked Choi Geong-seon if she wanted to go to school and pursue her studies. Instead, she shared her aspirations for learning Pansori, the art of storytelling through acting, music, and dance. She sang a traditional folk song, leaving the noblewoman amazed.

Jeongnyeon: The Star is Born then took a jump to Mokpo in 1951, where Yoon Jeong-nyeon was seen picking clams from a mud field along with other ladies who were singing a folk song. Seo Yong-rye came and took Yoon Jeong-nyeon away, asking her not to sing and garner attention.

Later, Yoon Jeong-nyeon and her sister, Yoon Jeong-ja (Oh Gyeong-hwa), were selling fish and clams in the market. Yoon Jeong-nyeon, despite her mother's warning, ended up singing in front of a huge crowd. The crowd insisted that she sing another song, but she said she would sing only if they bought the fish and clams.

Moon Ok-gyeong (Jung Eun-Chae), a famous actress known for her male roles in Maeran All Female Theater plays, happened to be at the market. Moon Ok-gyeong said she would buy it, prompting Yoon Jeong-nyeon to sing another song. Afterward, Moon Ok-gyeong gifted her two tickets to her show in Mokpo.

When the Yoon sisters reached home, Seo Yong-rye had already heard about Yoon Jeong-nyeon singing at the market. Furious, she hit her with a stick, and Jeong-nyeon promised she wouldn't sing again. That night, Seo Yong-rye was seen holding a photo of teenage Choi Geong-seon and Kang So-bok (Ra Mi-ran), Im Jin’s daughter, creating suspense.

The next day, after watching Moon Ok-gyeong's theater drama, Yoon Jeong-nyeon reached her boarding house, where the theater troupe was staying. Yoon Jeong-nyeon was amazed by her performance and wanted to learn more about Gukgeuk (dramatics).

Moon Ok-gyeong offered to train her and encouraged her to take the Maeran all-female theater troupe entrance exam. Yoon Jeong-nyeon was worried about her mother, however, she agreed and started training with her.

A few days later, Seo Yong-rye discovered that Yoon Jeong-nyeon was learning Gukgeuk and was furious. She warned her that Pansori and Gukgeuk would only hurt her, but Yoon Jeong-nyeon wanted to earn well with her passion and change the financial conditions of their family. Seo Yong-rye locked her up in the house.

By the end of Jeongnyeon: The Star is Born episode 1, Moon Ok-gyeong meets Yoon Jeong-ja and tells her that she and Yoon Jeong-nyeon will have to leave soon as the entrance exam is the next morning. With Yoon Jeong-ja’s help, Yoon Jeong-nyeon was able to run away to Seoul with Moon Ok-gyeong. At Maeran Theater Troupe, Yoon Jeong-nyeon garnered attention for being scouted by Moon Ok-gyeong, the male lead of Jamyunggo.

In Jeongnyeon: The Star is Born episode 2, despite spraining her shoulder, Yoon Jeong-nyeon passed the dancing, singing, and acting exams but was selected as an unofficial understudy trainee. Yoon Jeong-nyeon met Heo Young-seo (Shin Ye-eun) a singer and performer with remarkable talents who was the daughter of a popular soprano singer.

Yoon Jeong-nyeon tried to befriend Heo Yeong-seo as Kang So-bok made them sing together during her first class. However, Heo Young-seo believed Yoon Jeong-nyeon had no right to be the trainee and looked down on her for being a fishmonger's daughter. Yoon Jeong-nyeon later learned Heo Young-seo was her roommate.

Later in episode 2 of Jeongnyeon: The Star is Born, Yoon Jeong-nyeon was looked down on by other trainees as they believed she was backed by Moon Ok-gyeong. She was challenged by a trainee to audition for Jamyunggo and bring its official script to prove herself to stay at the theater troupe, and if she failed, she would have to leave.

Yoon Jeong-nyeon managed to get the script of Chunhyangjeon, an unofficial play as practice for trainees by an officer at Maeran. The officer promised to give her the official script of Jamyunggo if she even got to stand on the stage with other trainees for this practice play.

Other trainees were not ready to give her a role, but Heo Yeong-seo gave her a crucial role in Bangja despite everyone’s disagreement. The next day, Yoon Jeong-nyeon could not do her lines properly, and Heo Yeong-seo showed her to play Bangja well.

As she went to thank her, Heo Yeong-seo questioned her abilities to perform, and she realized that Bangja was too difficult for her to perform. Yoon Jeong-nyeon also learned that she assigned Bangja to her on purpose so she could not do it properly. By the end of Jeongnyeon: The Star is Born episode 2, Yoon Jeong-nyeon was called by Moon Ok-gyeong at her place.

Yoon Jeong-nyeon, along with another trainee, Hong Joo-ran (Woo Da-vi), visited Moon Ok-gyeong. She asked for tips to perform a male character well. Moon Ok-gyeong told her there were no tips but how she understood and interpreted the role to the audience was important. Moon Ok-gyeong gave her a shortcut as she was facing difficulties playing Bangja.

The shortcut was the official script of Jamyunggo. Moon Ok-gyeong told Yoon Jeong-nyeon to prepare well for Jamyunggo’s audition as she had recognized her talent. Moon Ok-gyeong looked at Yoon Jeong-nyeon as her successor and a future rival. Will Yoon Jeong-nyeon accept the script? It is yet to be seen what happens next on Jeongnyeon: The Star is Born.
