An homage was paid to the late actor Lee Sun-kyun at the 29th Busan International Film Festival (BIFF). The award ceremony recognized Lee Sun-kyun's outstanding achievements in cinema by bestowing upon him the esteemed Achievement Award, posthumously.
The ceremony took place at the renowned Busan Cinema Center in Haeundae-gu on October 3, 2024. A retrospective program titled A Kind Person, Lee Sun-kyun, was also played at the ceremony to honor his memories and vast oeuvre.
Actors Park Bo-young and Ahn Jae-hong led the festival's opening ceremony, where they honored the late actor's memory by playing a montage of his best works to date. The montage made the attending guests emotional including South Korean actors Song Joong-ki and Ha Yoon-kyung.

After the video, co-host Park Bo-young said,
"It was such a heartbreaking farewell. I hope you have found peace, just as the final message of 'My Mister' conveys." (as reported by Sports Chosun).
Co-host Ahn Jae-hong added,
"In memory of the late Lee Sun-kyun, this year's festival will showcase six of his most representative films. I hope it will be a meaningful time to remember him. I will personally deliver this award to his bereaved family."
For the unversed, Lee Sun-kyun passed away on December 27, 2023, after he was found dead inside his car. The late actor was renowned for his role in the Oscar-winning film, Parasite. His other noteworthy works include dramas like My Mister, Project Silence, and Sleep among others.

On December 27, 2023, it was reported that the Parasite actor seemingly ended his life after his body was found in his car by the police. VnExpress International reported that he left a s*icide note which was found by his wife, who then informed the police.
In October 2023, the actor was accused of drug abuse which led to a brutal police investigation and public scrutiny for months. However, when one of the ladies accused him of using drugs, things rapidly got out of hand and an official inquiry was launched.
The Korea Herald reported that all of the drug tests conducted on the late actor by the National Forensic Service yielded negative results. Reportedly, he kept telling the police about two women who blackmailed him, seeking 350 million won (over $262,032).
The day before he died, he even allegedly requested a polygraph test to determine if he was telling the truth. However, his requests were not accepted by the police.
After his death, the police found out that the two women lied about the late actor's drug abuse and had blackmailed him for money. Furthermore, one of the women had six previous drug conviction charges according to Yonhap News. The women—identities concealed—were later sent for prosecution on charges of extortion and blackmail in January 2024.
Lee Sun-kyun is survived by his wife, actress Jeon Hye-jin, and their two children. His last movie, Land of Happiness, was released on August 14, 2024.
