On July 29, 2024, 143 Entertainment revealed the first profiles of their upcoming seven-membered pre-debut girl group MADEIN. The group previously contained 3 members and was named LIMELIGHT. They officially debuted on February 17, 2023, with their EP Love & Happiness. Their lineup included members MiU, Suhye, and Gaeun.
While LIMELIGHT initially had no set limit on the number of members for the lineup, the recent re-branding and news of a re-debut with 4 added members is stirring anticipation among fans.
Meanwhile, the official first profile release confirmed the new lineup. It includes the latest additions Mashiro and Yeseo (both former members of Kep1er), Serina, Nagomi, and the 3 members from the initial ensemble of the rookie group LIMELIGHT.
Earlier on July 16, 143 Entertainment unveiled the new logo and girl group name through official social media handles, re-branding LIMELIGHT's original socials. It was also revealed that former Kep1er members Yeseo and Mashiro will re-debut with the new group.
Promising a September debut, the agency also explained the meaning of the new name MADEIN, which stands for "WE MADEIN U" meaning, "a group created with the love of fans", according to News1.
The current lineup contains names who were previously contestants of idol survival shows like Girls Planet 999 (Mashiro, Yeseo, MiU), My Teenage Girl (Suhye), and PRODUCE 101 JAPAN THE GIRLS (Serina, Nagomi).
MADEIN: All we know about the re-branded group
After two and a half years as members of WAKEONE and SWING Entertainment's girl group Kep1er, Mashiro, and Yeseo were confirmed to be leaving the group on May 30, 2024. The official declaration by the agencies stated that seven members excluding the two idols have renewed their contracts as members of the WA DA DA famed group.
After Yeseo and Mashiro's departure from Kep1er, a Star News Korea July 16 report revealed the duo to be joining MADEIN's lineup. Meanwhile, 143 Entertainment, established by Digital Masta, serves as a home to popular K-pop artists like iKON, Dok2, DK, and previously LIMELIGHT, among others.
At the moment, the eldest in the new pre-debut group is Mashiro born on December 16, 1999, in Tokyo, Japan. She was a former JYP Entertainment trainee from 2016-2018. Mashiro made it to the winning lineup for Girls Planet 999 with 708,149 points from voters. With that, she became the 8th member of Kep1er.
She was also seen in Mnet's reality show Stray Kids in the pilot episode, as a member of the female trainee group but did not go beyond in the show. She joined Girls Planet 999 in 2021.
MiU, another Japanese member, was born on January 9, 2003. While she made up the former lineup for LIMELIGHT, MiU was also a Girls Planet 999 participant as an individual trainee. Following her elimination in episode 5 ranking J20, she signed under 143 Entertainment on December 24, 2021.
Suhye comes next, born on December 13, 2004, in Incheon, South Korea. As a contestant on MBC's My Teenage Girl, she was in Grade 3 and was eliminated in segment 8 of the survival series.
She was previously also an SM Entertainment and Pocketdoll trainee. She was revealed as a 143 Entertainment trainee on April 15, 2022, debuting later as LIMELIGHT's main vocalist.
Yeseo was born on August 22, 2005, in Incheon, South Korea. Also a former Girls Planet 999 participant, she scored 770,561 points in the finals. She ranked 6th in the finale of the Mnet idol reality show and debuted as a member of Kep1er.
Member Gaeun from LIMELIGHT's original trio was born on November 8, 2005. While she was the only 143 Entertainment public trainee who did not appear on Girls Planet 999 or other reality survival shows, she worked as a model along with MiU for renowned American fashion designer Alexander Wang.
Additionally, she was the youngest member of LIMELIGHT. For MADEIN, she is expected to showcase her wide range of talents in dancing, singing, and rapping.
The second-youngest member of the forthcoming group MADEIN is Serina. She was born on May 3, 2006, in Osaka, Japan. Finally, the youngest aka the maknae is Nagomi born on July 2, 2007, in London, England.
At the age of 4, she moved to Kanagawa, Japan. These two members were previously on the Japanese audition program PRODUCE 101 JAPAN THE GIRLS. According to The Fact July 29 report, MADEIN's agency gave the following statement regarding the upcoming K-pop group:
"Even before their debut, MADEIN proved their hot star quality by being selected as advertising models for brands covering various fields such as fashion, beauty, and food and beverage, and have completed filming. Armed with seven colorful charms, they will continue to take special steps."
With their September debut fast approaching, fans of the members highly anticipate their vocals, raps, and performance skills, as they already displayed in their survival show appearances.
