Love In The Big City was released across South Korean theaters on October 8, 2024. The film stars popular actress Kim Go-eun, known for Exhuma, and Noh Sang-hyun from the Pachinko series. The film is adapted into a Korean drama of the same name and will be released on October 21, starring Nam Yoon-soo as the lead.

However, on October 14, reports of a religious group protesting against the upcoming drama release went viral on the Korean online platform TheQoo. Both the film and its drama adaptation are about a closeted gay man who navigates life and love in the metropolitan city of Seoul.

However, a religious group protested against the upcoming K-drama, complaining about creating content that promotes the idea of same-sex love. The group rallied on the streets of Seoul with a banner demanding the South Korean Ministry of Tourism, Sports, and Culture to halt the drama's release and stop wasting citizens' taxes on creating "controversial" dramas.

One of the banners of the protest reads:

"Inspect the Korea Contents Association as the Ministry of Tourism, Sports, and Culture wastes tax-payers money to support a homosexual drama!"

Additionally, the group lashed out at the South Korean entertainment company C-JeS Studio for allegedly promoting homosexuality.

Love In The Big City: Plot, cast, release, and everything we know so far

The film stars Noh Sang-hyun as Heung-soo and his best friend Jae-hee, played by Kim Go-eun. Love In The Big City, or 대도시의 사랑법 in Korean, is based on Park Sang-young's 2019 eponymous bestselling novel. The film premiered on October 8 at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). Meanwhile, the K-drama will be released on TVING and Viki.

Meanwhile, the plot of the upcoming 8-episode K-drama is about a gay Korean man, Go-young, who shares a house with a woman, Mi-ae. Ostracised by his own mother for his orientation, Go-young is forced out of his home and ends his relationship with his lover, Gyu-ho. The drama will focus on Go-young's journey in accepting his reality and fighting for his right to live and love.

Love In The Big City K-drama will feature Jin Ho-eun as Go-young's love interest. Jin Ho-eun is known for his roles in All of Us Are Dead and Shooting Stars. The cast also includes Kwon Hyuk, known for The New Employee and The Point Man, and Na Hyun-woo from Uncle Samsik. Additional cast includes Kim Won-joong, Oh Hyun-kyung, and Lee Soo-kyung.

The K-drama is helmed by a team of renowned directors such as Heo Jin-ho, Hong Ji-young, Son Taek-yeom, and Kim Se-in. The 8 episodes are divided into four acts, representing Go-young's (Nam Yoon-soo) journey and development arcs into finding his real identity. However, due to the backlash by the religious group, the official trailer of the K-drama was taken down from official websites.

The author of the novel, Park Sang-young, voiced his disappointment in Korean netizens' protest regarding the story. He refused to take down the official trailer from his Instagram account. The official trailer of Love In The Big City K-drama is available on Park Sang-young and actor Jin Ho-eun's Instagram accounts and on the Viki OTT platform.

Love In The Big City drama will premiere on TVING and Viki on October 21, 2024.
