Love Your Enemy episode 1 recap: The transfer of Dokmok Highschool brings the two enemies face-to-face

Episode 1 of Love Your Enemy began with Yun Jiwon (Jing Yu-mi) waking from a dream where her younger self, dressed in a school uniform, was running towards something. She woke up and called herself crazy for having such a dream.

In Love Your Enemy, Jung Yu-mi brings Yun Jiwon to life who works as a physical education teacher at Dokmok High School, run by her grandfather, Yun Jae-ho. Yun Jae-ho was stressed about potentially losing the school's chairmanship to his archnemesis, Seokban Enterprises, due to financial troubles. It was revealed that the Seok family had been eyeing the school as part of the longstanding rivalry between the Yuns and the Seoks.

It was revealed that the enemies between the two families began because the grandfathers of both Yun and Seok Jiwon fell in love with the same woman. Family By Choice actor Bae Hyun-sung and Cindrella at 2AM actor Moon Sang-min have made a cameo in the series as the younger versions of the two grandfathers. Seok Ban-hee emerged as the winner and got the girl.

In the board meeting, Yun Jae-ho lost the right to the school and it was transferred to Seok Enterprises. Seok Ban-hee's son Seok Gyeong-tae rubbed salt on Yun Jae-ho as he successfully swiped his property. In the teachers' room, one of the teachers, Ji-hye, who had been friends with Yun Jiwon (Jung Yu-mi) since childhood backed Seok's family as she believed that if they were developing the neighborhood then their acquisition should not be that bad.

However, another teacher, Sua, objected to her as she felt that she was not being considerate of the stress and pressure on her childhood friend.

Seok Jiwon (Ju Ji-hoon) was revealed to have been working in Dubai. However, he surprised everyone with a sudden appearance and also exposed the current CEO of Seok Enterprises, who was also the brother-in-law of Gyeong-tae for his illegal subcontracting activities.

Seok Gyeong-tae met Ji-won at the house and asked him to run the foundation. However, Ji-won refused as he presented no interest in carrying out his family's revenge. Seok Gyeong-tae wished to build a golf course in place of the school. Ji-won objected as he believed that the place was not suitable for a golf course.

Yun Ji-won discussed with her grandfather that they should leave the school and settle somewhere far away from the town. While Jae-ho did not mind leaving the school, he could not leave his hometown in the hands of Ban-hee. Yun Ji-won's friend Ji-hye recommended her transfer as Seok's presence may make it uncomfortable for her.

A flashback of Yun and Seok Jiwons' past was played where it became clear that they had been competing with each other since they were children. Ms. Sua told her to do whatever she wished. It was okay to stay back and fight and she wished she could run away as well. This was contrary to the advice Ji-hye gave her.

Seok Jiwon met with his school friends, and one of them mentioned Yun Jiwon, noting that she had earned an engineering degree and worked at a promising startup but was now teaching at their old school. Seok became extremely disturbed when the friend revealed that during their last meeting, Yun Jiwon claimed not to remember Seok Jiwon.

The thought of Yun Jiwon forgetting him agitated Seok so much that he accepted his father's earlier offer to become the school's chairman, which he had previously declined.

The next day, Yun Jiwon woke up with a slight cold but ignored it. During her physical education class, she was hit by a basketball, breaking her glasses. In a weary state, she made her way back to the teachers' lounge, only to come face-to-face with Seok Jiwon.

However, due to her blurry vision, she did not recognize him and simply bowed before moving on. This infuriated Seok, who remained haunted by the idea that Yun had forgotten him. A flashback took him back to their school days when they had both contested for the Student Council presidency, with Seok emerging as the winner. The two often bickered and competed fiercely over grades.

The flashback ended with them betting on who would be the school topper in the final exams. Yun said that if she placed first, Seok should call her 'noona' (a term used by Korean men for younger sister-like women). However, Seok bet that if he came first, they would both date. This shocked their friends, but Seok explained that if she was willing to bet on something that made him uncomfortable, then dating him would make her uncomfortable too.

Episode 1 of Love Your Enemy ended with Seok Jiwon visiting the teachers' lounge, where Yun Jiwon was napping with a fever. Her dream from earlier continued, where she was waiting for someone, who turned out to be Seok. The scene mirrored the past as Yun, both then and now, placed her hand on Seok's cheek and pinched it hard.

Love Your Enemy is scheduled to air every Saturday and Sunday on the tvN network. The series is expected to run for 14 episodes.
