Lovely Runner, starring Byeon Woo-seok, Kim Hye-yoon, Song Geon-hee, and others, will premiere on Netflix in India on Wednesday, July 31, 2024. The Rom-com drama aired between April and May on tvN and other OTT platforms like Viu, Viki, U-Next, Vidio, and TVING. Due to its surging demand among viewers, Netflix has finally made the show available on the platform in some countries after two months of its release.

The drama follows the story of Im Sol played by Kim Hye-yoon, an avid fan of Ryu Sun-jae (Byeon Woo-seok), a popular Korean singer who suddenly faces a tragic death. This leaves Im Sol devastated as she finds comfort and solace through his music.

Im Sol gets an opportunity to travel 15 years back in time, and she uses this golden chance to stick by her idol and do her best to prevent events that may lead Ryu Sun-jae to his death.

The time skip drama perfectly captures the youth of two high school students, who see each other in different lights.

Lovely Runner review: Byeon Woo-seok and Kim Hye-yoon-starrer may be the best rom-com drama of 2024

Lovely Runner is a time travel drama that seamlessly illustrates all the phases of Im Sol and Ryu Sun-jae together, eventually leading them back to the present. This drama will remind fans of popular high school series like True Beauty, also written by Lee Si-eun.

While the plots of True Beauty and Lovely Runner are not similar, they will successfully make the viewers laugh with their hilarious subplots.

This drama marked Byeon Woo-seok's first main lead character, and fans have been anxious if his character would die in the drama just like his in his previous film 20th Century Girl and drama Strong Girl Namsoon.

Byeon Woo-seok has shown versatility through his different characters, and this time, he has flawlessly depicted the role of a one-sided lover who will never show his love to his crush because he is too cool for it. This side of Byeon Woo-seok’s Ryu Sun-jae will not only capture the viewer's heart but also make them burst into laughter.

Another reason for fans to tune in to watch Lovely Runner would be Kim Hye-yoon's remarkable acting skills. As a fan who has lost her favorite celebrity who walked along with her during her tough times through his music, Kim Hye-yoon displayed her best performance in the show.

From showcasing the emotions of anxiousness and the fear of losing a loved one to portraying dedication of becoming a shield for Ryu Sun-jae whenever he faced an issue, Kim Hye-yoon did justice to Im Sol's character.

Kim Hye-yoon and Byeon Woo-seok’s undying chemistry on screen is also a reason why viewers may enjoy the show.

On the other hand, the thriller and suspense subplots featuring the antagonist may appear repetitive with each episode. Moreover, Im Sol's time-traveling period may also create confusion at times which will lead to difficulties in following up the drama.

With the time-travel transitions and changes in the storyline, the overall drama is a fun watch.

Korean dramas are known worldwide for their romance, but in the past few years, there has not been a show that has represented a romance that made the viewers swoon and feel young like Lovely Runner. Add it to your Netflix watchlist if you wish to watch some time-skip thriller wrapped in romance and comedy.
