Seo Yea-ji: Career, controversies, and legal battles

Seo Yea-ji, born on April 6, 1990, is a South Korean actress. She began her acting journey with the sitcom Potato Star 2013QR3 (2013–2014). One of her most famous projects is the 2020 drama It's Okay to Not Be Okay, where she starred opposite Kim Soo-hyun.

However, in 2021, Seo faced significant controversies. She was accused of controlling her then-partner, actor Kim Jung-hyun, during the filming of the 2018 drama Time. Reports alleged that she instructed him to avoid romantic scenes, which reportedly led to his alleged unprofessional conduct on set.

Allegations surfaced after Dispatch released text messages between Seo and Kim. The messages allegedly showed Seo demanding that Kim remove romantic scenes from the script. Following this, Kim reportedly quit the series citing eating and sleeping disorders.

However, Seo’s agency, Gold Medalist, denied these claims. They stated it was unreasonable to assume Kim would jeopardize his career due to her influence. Despite their defense, Seo withdrew from the drama Island (2022–2023). Her character was recast and rewritten. In May 2021, Kim denied Seo’s involvement in his behavior, attributing it to his poor health and the agency’s mistreatment.

Seo also faced accusations of school bullying and academic forgery. These controversies led to a hiatus from public appearances. In 2022, she returned with the drama Eve. However, it received a lukewarm response from fans. After this, she took a two-year hiatus and reappeared in 2024 for the Fedora fan meeting.

Despite her efforts to rebuild her career, Seo faced continued online negativity, and on January 9, 2025, she announced legal action against malicious commenters. Her agency confirmed that complaints were filed against approximately 130 individuals, and these investigations are ongoing.

Seo remains a polarizing figure in the industry. Her career and controversies continue to draw public attention. However, her fans eagerly await the actress' return to screen with her next project soon.
