My Sweet Mobster episode 8 recap: Why did Seo Ji-hwan get arrested?

On Thursday, July 4, 2024, JTBC and Viki aired My Sweet Mobster's episode 8. The episode picks up from where the previous episode ends with Ji-hwan holding the time capsule. He gives it to Go Eun-ha (Han Sun-hwa), however, he chooses not to disclose his real identity to her. She becomes happy to see the letters she wrote with her childhood friend and gets nostalgic.

Meanwhile, Seo Ji-hwan plans to rescue his employee Jung Yoon-taek, who went missing and was held hostage by Go Yang-hee. My Sweet Mobster shows an injured Ji-hwan being taken into custody by the police as he tries to rescue Yoon-taek. Prosecutor Jang Hyeon-u (Kwon Yul), interrogates Ji-hwan and tells him that he knows his true identity.

My Sweet Mobster is a story of a former mobster Seo Ji-hwan, who is on a quest for self-redemption, breaking up mafia organizations and offering its members a second shot at life. He reunites with Eun-ha, a friend from his childhood, however, they both are unaware of each other identities.

My Sweet Mobster episode 8 strikes a balance between good comedy scenes and action-packed moments

My Sweet Mobster episode 8 reveals the real story behind Seo Ji-hwan's hotel fight in the past, which led Prosecutor Jang Hyeon-u to believe that he was a criminal. Members of the Cat Company and its leader, Go Yang-hee attacked the hotel. Ji-hwan was stabbed and suffered serious injuries in the incident and Jang Hyeoun-u misunderstood the situation.

Episode 8 of My Sweet Mobster shows Ji-hwan trying to keep his distance from Eun-ha for her safety, however, it makes her unhappy. Meanwhile, Go Yang-hee, the head of the Cat Company, is getting ready to close a big drug deal in the meantime.

Eun-ha and Ji-hwan's employees—Dong-hee, Jae-su, Man-ho, and Jong-ki—learn that Ji-hwan has gone on a solo mission to find Jung Yoon-taek. However, this makes them worried about Ji-hwan's safety and might end up getting hurt.

Meanwhile, Ji-hwan finds Jung Yoon-taek being held captive and succeeds in rescuing him. However, he gets into a physical altercation with Go Yang-hee's goons and gets injured. While he gets tortured by goons, Go Yang-hee threatens Ji-hwan that he will hurt Eun-ha.

Prosecutor Jang Hyeon-u and the police received information about the drug deal of Go Yang-hee. Fortunately, the police arrive at the scene and save Ji-hwan from getting killed. Nevertheless, he gets arrested alongside other goons.

In that scene, Ji-hwan is seen looking at prosecutor Jang Hyeon-u sadly since he always wanted to become a lawyer. However, he unfortunately turned into a gangster due to his tragic past. The police then take away a dejected Ji-hwan in handcuffs. Meanwhile, Eun-ha witnesses everything from a distance and is shocked.

After a lengthy interrogation held by prosecutor, Ji-hwan is released from custody and gets home. He finds Eun-ha outside his house, waiting for him with tears in her eyes.

She asks him if his injuries are serious but Ji-hwan asks her to leave. He tells her that she is nothing more than a tenant to him. Ji-hwan starts keeping his distance from Eun-ha, which ends up deeply hurting her.

Later, Eun-ha takes the time capsule and goes to meet Jang Hyeon-u as she believes he is the boy from her childhood whom she has been searching for all these years. She assumes that since Jang Hyeon-u and the boy share the same name, it must be him. Meanwhile, Jang Hyeon-u telling something to Eun-ha, which isn't revealed by the end of My Sweet Mobster episode 8.

The episode ends with Eun-ha visiting Ji-hwan at his house and telling him that they should never see each other again. She also tells him that she has found the boy from her childhood and thanks Ji-hwan for everything he has done for her.
