1) Alienoid: The Return to the Future
Starring Kim Tae-ri, Ryu Jun-yeol, and Kim Woo-bin and directed by Choi Dong-hoon, the Sci-Fi action film which is a continuation of the 2022 release, explores the story of humans and monks traveling through time and space to save everyone while hidden secrets find their way into the light.
This sequel to the original release came out in January 2024.
2) Badland Hunters
The January 2024 Korean movie stars Ma Dong-seok of Train to Busan, Lee Hee-jun, Lee Jun-young, and Roh Jeong-eui, amongst others, in a post-apocalyptic wasteland, ravaged by an earthquake. Lawlessness is the order of the day and a brave Huntsman embarks on a mission to rescue a teenager abducted by a mad doctor.
3) Again 1997
The April 2024 Korean movie was directed by Shin Sheung-hoon and stars Jo Byeong-gyu, Koo Jun-hoe, and Choi Hee swung, among others. The fantasy movie is based on a middle-aged man who gets five talismans from a monk, gets involved in an accident, and somehow finds himself back in 1997 as a high school student. He then embarks on a project to change the course of his life.
4) Yumi’s Cells: The Movie
The animated film directed by Kim Da-hee is based on a webtoon by Lee Dong-gun. This psychological romance follows Yumi, an ordinary office worker, and the cells that control her emotions. The Korean movie stars Yoon Ah-young and Shin Beom-sik. The film came out in April 2024.
5) Seeking the King
Directed by Won Shin-yun, and starring Koo Kyo-hwan, Yoo Jae-myung, Seohyun, and Park Ye-rin, amongst others, the movie is based on the restoration of laughter, happiness, and justice through the meeting of a young man and a giant robot from outer space landing in a village during a tragic area in modern Korean history. The movie will come out in the summer of 2024.
6) Exhuma
The mystery thriller directed and written by Jang Jae-Hyun stars Choi Min-sik, Kim Go-eun, Yu Hae-jin, Lee Do-hyun, and Jeon Jin-ki in a story of a wealthy Los Angeles family who enlists the help of a Shaman duo to save their baby from paranormal events. They perform an exhumation which lets loose a malevolent force. Exhuma came out in February 2024.
7) The Great Flood
Starring Kim Da-mi and Park Hae-soo, the adventure movie happens on the last day on Earth, when a great flood threatens. Kim Da-mi of Itaewon Class plays an AI researcher who survives a tidal surge and saves a child from a flooded apartment. Hee-joo of Squid Game stars as a security man who helps Kim Da-mi’s character.
The movie will come out in the fourth quarter of 2024.
8) My Name is Loh Kiwan
Starring Song Joong-ki, Choi Sung-eun, Jo Han-chul, Kim Sung-ryung, Lee Il-hwa and directed by Kim Hee-jin, the movie follows a defector from North Korea, Song, who flees to Belgium and while waiting for his refugee status to become official, falls in love with a Korean woman, Choi.
The movie came out in March 2024.
