NewJeans, a popular K-pop girl group under HYBE, has been in the news following a controversy involving their agency, ADOR. After the members spoke out during a YouTube live, several K-pop idols showed support. Since their 2022 debut, the 5th generation K-pop group has set records, topped Korean charts, and become ambassadors for global luxury brands.

1) Minji

Minji, the popular face of NewJeans, is the first member of the band. She began her journey as an idol in 2019 at the HYBE's Plus Global Audition #The Girl. Later, she was featured in BTS' Permission to Dance music video in 2021. However, she officially debuted on July 22, 2022, with her other bandmates.
Kim Minji was born on May 7, 2004, in Yeongwol-gun, Gangwon-do, South Korea. She is the middle child in her family, with an older brother and a younger sister. In elementary school, she learned English and spent some months in Canada.
Minji is fluent in Korean, Japanese, and English, and she plans to study languages in university. As per Allkpop, she was a classmate of Bae and Sullyoon from NMIXX and studied major in Broadcasting at Hanlim Multi Art School. She loves reading mystery novels and used to play tennis in school.
Apart from rapping, this NewJean member is quite skilled at songwriting, which can be seen in Ditto. She is the first Korean idol who has become the brand ambassador of Chanel in three categories - Beauty, Fashion, and Watches.

2) Hanni
Hanni, whose birth name is Phạm Ngọc Hân, is a Vietnamese Australian born on October 6, 2024, in Melbourne, Australia. Her Vietnamese grandparents migrated to Australia long ago.
Hanni is fluent in English and Korean but struggles with Vietnamese. As a child, she was a big fan of One Direction, which sparked her interest in pop music.
During her high school years in Australia, Hanni was part of AEMINA, a K-pop group. She holds a second-degree black belt in Taekwondo and plans to study filmography, medicine, and science at university.
Later, she traveled to Korea for HYBE's Plus Global Audition, where she was the only member to pass all three rounds. Before her official debut with ADOR, she appeared in BTS' "Permission to Dance" alongside Minji, and fans nicknamed her Cherry since they didn't know her name at the time.
On July 21, 2022, ADOR officially revealed her name. She is known for writing, producing, and composing the songs for the group, especially Hype Boy. In 2022, she was announced as the brand ambassador of Gucci.
3) Danielle
Danielle was born in New South Wales, Australia on April 11, 2005. Her birth name is Danielle June Marsh. Her father's name is Andrew Marsh, an Australian caucasian while her mother has the Korean root, named Mo Ji-won.
Danielle has an older sister, Olivia Marsh, who is five years older. At the age of four, she came to Korea and began her education at Munsan Elementary School. During this time, she was learning ballets and acting. After three years, she returned to Australia and joined Valentine Public School.
This Australian-Korean NewJeans member is fluent in English and Korean. During her childhood, she worked as a child model with her Korean birth name Mo Jihye. Some of her works as a child model can be seen in Rainbow Kindergarten, Jesse's Play Kitchen, My Heart's Crayon, etc.
She cracked the Source Music audition in 2020, singing DanielCeaser's Best Part. At the end of 2021, she was transferred to ADOR and debuted in August 2022. In 2023, she dubbed the Korean version of The Little Mermaid. She is the global brand ambassador of Celine.
4) Haerin
Haerin, a Korean NewJeans member, was born on May 15, 2006, with the name Kim Haerin. Her English name is Venessa Kang. Haerin was born in Dongjak Gu, Seoul, and has a younger sister.
She speaks Korean, Japanese, and English, fluently. She used to study in Seoul Boramae Elementary School and later she was transferred to Gwiin Elementary School in Pyeongchon.
Before her debut, she used to be a part of Won Love Dance Studio. The NewJeans member passed the audition of Source Music in 2020 and later debuted by ADOR in July 2022 with the mini album NewJeans.
In 2023, she became the global brand ambassador of Dior.
5) Hyein
The youngest NewJeans member, Hyein, was born on April 21, 2008, in Incheon, South Korea. Her birth name is Lee Hye-in. She began studying at Inseong Elementary School and later she went to Munhak Elementary School. Also, she joined the Korea International Christian School and dropped out due to her training.
On July 22, 2022, this NewJeans member was introduced to the world by ADOR and she debuted the next month with the NewJeans EP. Before joining the group, Hyein was a member of the U.SSO Girl and her stage name was U.jeong. She also appeared in Pocket TV's show Play With Me Club.
Hyein is the brand ambassador of Louis Vuitton.
