In South Korea, all able-bodied male citizens, including K-pop idols, must enlist for mandatory military service for eighteen months or two years. Naturally, many K-pop idols have been scheduled to return in 2025 after completing their duty. The artists listed below would be discharged in the present year:

  1. MONSTA X's Joohoney
  2. EXO's Kai
  3. MONSTA X's Kihyun
  4. BTS' Kim Taehyung
  5. BTS' Kim Namjoon
  6. BTS' Jungkook
  7. BTS' Jimin
  8. BTS' Suga
  9. NCT's Taeyong
  10. SF9's Dawon

The K-pop community has been eagerly awaiting the return of K-pop idols to the South Korean entertainment industry. They shared multiple posts expressing their longing and eagerness to meet the artists. Many continued to pray for the well-being and safety of their favorite artists during their tenure in the military.

1) MONSTA X's Joohoney (January 21)

The South Korean K-pop idol MONSTA X's Joohoney enlisted for mandatory conscription on July 24, 2023. He joined as an active duty soldier in the Fifth Infantry Division at Hwacheon Army Base, North Gangwon Province. The male artist will be discharged on January 21, 2025.


2) EXO's Kai (February 10)

EXO member Kai joined the mandatory military service on May 11, 2023, as a social service worker. After serving for eighteen months, the male artist would return to the South Korean Entertainment world on February 10, 2025.


3) MONSTA X's Kihyun (February 21)

The K-pop idol and MONSTA X member Kihyun enlisted for mandatory military service on August 22, 2023. He joined the army as part of the military band at the 25th Infantry Division at Yangju Army Base in North Gyeonggi Province. The male artist will be discharged on February 21, 2025.


4) BTS' Kim Taehyung (June 10)

BTS' Kim Taehyung enlisted for the mandatory military service on December 11, 2023. After concluding five weeks of basic military training, he underwent three months of additional military training at the Army General Administration School.

Subsequently, the male artist was deployed to the Ssangyong Unit of 2nd Corps on February 2, 2024. He has been serving under the Special Task Force of the Military Police Corps. The K-pop idol will be discharged on June 10, 2025.


5) BTS' Kim Namjoon (June 10)

The leader and rapper of BTS, Kim Namjoon, enlisted for mandatory military service on December 11, 2023. He joined the duty as an active-duty soldier. After concluding his five weeks of basic military training, the artist was deployed to the 15th Infantry Division.

He has been serving with the division's military band. The K-pop idol is scheduled to be discharged on June 10, 2025.


6) BTS' Jungkook (June 11)

The K-pop idol Jungkook began mandatory conscription on December 12, 2023, as an active-duty soldier. After concluding five weeks of basic military training, he was deployed to the 5th Infantry Division of the ROK ARMY in Yeoncheon, Gyeonggi Province. The male artist is currently serving as a cook in the division. He will be discharged on June 11, 2025.


7) BTS' Jimin (June 11)

The K-pop idol and BTS vocalist Jimin joined the military as an active-duty soldier on December 12, 2023. He was deployed to the 5th Infantry Division boot camp in Yeoncheon, Gyeonggi Province. The artist is expected to be discharged on June 11, 2025, after concluding eighteen weeks of service.


8) BTS' Suga (March 22)

BTS' Suga kick-started his mandatory military service as a social worker on September 22, 2023. Subsequently, he underwent three weeks of basic training program at the Nonsan training center. He will be discharged on March 22, 2025.


9) NCT's Taeyong (December 14)

NCT member Taeyong joined the South Korean Navy as an active-duty soldier on April 15, 2024. He was the first member of the band to complete the obligation of joining the mandatory military service in South Korea. He will be discharged on December 14, 2025.


10) SF9's Dawon (December 31)

The male idol and SF9 member Dawon enlisted for mandatory military service on July 1, 2024. The male artist is expected to be discharged from the duty on December 31, 2025.
