On August 19, 2024, MBC aired Half-Star Hotel on Lost Island featuring BTS' Jin as its special guest. The Korean variety show showcases a celebrity guest list who work alongside Korean TV personality, Ahn Jung-hwan, in renovating an abandoned house on an island. The cast ensemble sets up tents, makes a fire, and prepares food from scratch to invite locals to their "half-star" restaurant.
In the episode, the BTS sensation joined the crew as a special guest alongside B1A4's Sandeul. Jin was seen slicing abalones and seashells as he prepared abalone gimbap and "mulhwa" (a Korean delicacy with raw fish). After the preparations, they invited a few locals for tasting, who lauded Jin for the food.
As a result, "Abalone Gimbap," also called Kimbap, started trending on X across South Korea. One fan commented:

The BTS ARMY took social media by storm as they lavished praises on the BTS singer for his cooking expertise.
"It's pretty nervewracking to cook for other people let alone on TV. He did so well and impressed them with his knife skills and delicious mulhwe and kimbap," one fan wrote.
"Seokjin is such a perfect partner and such a perfect human," another fan praised.
"Chef seokjin's kimbap is sooo good it made the mother cry," a person noted.
Others graded him as "husband material" and joked about him getting shy when the other cast members complimented him for the food.

Half-Star Hotel on Lost Island's next episode with the BTS sensation will be released on August 26, 2024, at 9 PM KST on MBC's official website and Wavve. It will show the Moon singer-songwriter struggling to catch fish for lunch, adding laughter to the content.
Meanwhile, the K-pop idol also released his personal variety show, RUN JIN, on August 13, 2024. The show will air new episodes every Tuesday. Episode 1 was about the idol's hike on the Hallasan Mountain in Jeju Island.
The show's episode 2 preview showed the singer visiting Posung High School (his alma mater), and engaging with the students in games. It also hinted at the appearance of a special guest in the show. The preview displayed Jin playing tennis with the special guest as they both bickered hilariously on camera.
