Jimin of BTS has achieved a groundbreaking milestone by becoming the first and only Korean or K-pop soloist in the past decade to surpass 1 billion on-demand streams as a lead artist in the United States. This historic feat places him alongside veteran Korean artist PSY, making them the only two K-pop artists to reach this level of success in U.S. streaming history.

Jimin's solo career began on March 17, 2023, with the release of his debut solo album, FACE. In just 1 year and 9 months, he has achieved this milestone in the world’s largest music market. This accomplishment is being seen as a testament to his popularity and global impact as an artist by the fans. One user said:

"jimin is the most successful and popular kpop artist in the us. his achievments speak more than words."

One fan hailed him as a "history maker," while others stated how proud they were of the BTS star.

“History maker jimin,” a fan said.
“Beyond proud - this huge record belongs to only #JIMIN, his music and all those enjoying it..Truly a music record maker,” a fan claimed.
“That’s a huge achievement! So proud of you Jimin,” a fan expressed.

Fans continued to shower praise for the idol.

“As expected! He is the idol of idols,” another fan said.
“We can now change JM's title to: the King of FIRSTs!” a fan stated.
“JIMERICA IS REAL,” a fan conjoined the names of the idol and the country America.

Jimin's record-breaking streak in USA continues with Who

In the music industry, 1 billion on-demand streams refers to the total number of times a song, album, or artist's catalog has been played on streaming platforms such as Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, or YouTube Music. These streams are "on-demand," meaning users actively choose to play the content rather than hearing it passively, such as through radio or curated playlists.

The BTS member's solo journey began with an exceptional debut year in 2023 with the release of his first album, FACE. In 2024, he followed up with another hit album, MUSE, both of which contributed significantly to his record-breaking success. His consistent impact on the U.S. music market is evident as he recently climbed 17 spots to rank #75 on Spotify’s Daily Top Artists USA chart on December 9.

The title track of MUSE, Who, has been a pivotal force behind his success. As crowned by Spotify Wrapped, the track became the most-streamed solo song by an Asian act globally in 2024.

In November, the song achieved several milestones, becoming the fastest song by a male soloist and Asian act to reach 1.1 billion streams on Spotify. Additionally, Who is the first K-pop soloist song to spend 17 weeks on Billboard’s Streaming Songs chart.

Beyond streaming records, he also made history this year by becoming the first K-pop soloist since 2014 to win a Daesang (grand prize) at the 2024 MAMA Awards. His achievements have drawn parallels to PSY's historic success with Gangnam Style, which dominated the decade of 2010-2019.
