On September 2, 2024, the South Korean media outlet TV CHOSUN reported that Han So-hee's mother was arrested by the police on the charges that she was operating around 12 illegal gambling sites and an illegal gambling house. It should be noted that the actress' mother also has a history of fraud and scams and has been fined once for gambling.
For those unversed, Han So-hee is a South Korean actress known as Lee So-hee. She has been gaining momentum domestically and internationally due to her acting range and choice of projects. The female artist is best known for shows, including The World of the Married, My Name, Nevertheless, Gyeongseong Creature, and other dramas.
Han So-hee's mother has operated 12 gaming sites in different regions of South Korea
According to the outlet, Han So-hee's mother has been in charge of the seemingly twelve gambling houses/sites in different regions of South Korea, including Wonju, Ulsan, since 2021. While her mother was the backbone of the ongoing gambling sites, she had employed someone to act as the owner. Subsequently, Han So-hee's mother's gambling would work when a customer would upload their credits on the gambling site prior to logging into the games.
However, it is not the first time the actress has been allegedly a victim of her mother's illegal acts. According to the South Korean media outlet My Daily, Han So-hee paid off her mother's debt before debuting as an actress and subsequently apologized to the victims.
She shared a post on her Naver blog on July 19, 2020, disclosing the details about her mother's debt controversy. The actress kickstarted the post, initially apologizing to the victims who might have felt uncomfortable or hurt due to her mother's debt controversy. Han So-hee explained how her mother used her name to borrow money from debtors and did not return it.
The actress disclosed through her blog post that her grandparents raised her after her parents divorced when she was five years old. Subsequently, she was not in contact with her mother as she turned 20. However, she decided to pay off her mother's debt due to her sense of responsibility. She stated in her blog, as translated by Koreaboo:
"After I debuted, I got in contact with the debtors and learned that my mother borrowed money using my name and job as her shield and did not pay it back. The amount she borrowed using my name and thus, the amount of debt I carried was just too large to bear.
She further stated:
"I am sorry that my carelessness ended up creating more victims, as my immature and inexperienced judgment was that the only thing to do was to reimburse the debts."
The actress' upcoming drama Gyeongseong Creature season 2 is slated to premiere on September 27, 2024, through Netflix.
