On Tuesday, July 9, ADOR's CEO Min Hee-jin was called to the Yongsan Police Station in Seoul, South Korea, for an investigation. She was called in as the first defendant in HYBE's accusations regarding the breach of trust, otherwise known as embezzlement.
HYBE Labels, the parent company of ADOR, reportedly charged three individuals for a breach of trust, including Min Hee-jin. According to a report from Korean media outlet Newsis, the CEO arrived at the Yongsan Police Station around 1:38 pm, wearing a cap and casual clothes. She entered the station around 2:00 pm.
As she made her way into the station, the surrounding reporters who came to cover her presence for the investigation posed questions to her. When asked what she aimed to explain or prove during the investigation, Min Hee-jin stated that she planned on telling the truth. She added that she had never been involved in any form of embezzlement or acted upon breaching the trust shared between her and HYBE Labels.
Here are her exact words:
"It makes no sense that they claim there was a breach of trust. All I need to do is tell the truth."
What was the conflict between HYBE Labels and ADOR's CEO Min Hee-jin?
The feud between the two parties began on April 22, when HYBE requested that Min Hee-jin step down from her position amid speculations of a power struggle. HYBE conducted an audit of the agency and discovered alleged pieces of evidence that proved that ADOR and its executives were working toward creating ADOR as an independent company without HYBE's knowledge.
HYBE owns 80% of ADOR, while Hee-jin holds the remaining 20%. Therefore, the subsidiary's executives allegedly participated in actions such as spreading misinformation about HYBE and its artists, collecting confidential documents to use as threats, etc.
This led to HYBE demanding a shareholders' meeting to force Hee-jin's resignation. In response, the ADOR CEO showed resistance and filed a court trial against the demand.
Several accusations were thrown back and forth between the two parties. Following the news of the audit, Min Hee-jin held an emergency press conference to address the several allegations HYBE made against her. These accusations included involvement with shamans for official matters and spreading misinformation about ILLIT and NewJeans.
Additionally, she accused HYBE of several matters, such as the lack of compensation for NewJeans' commercial success, the alleged slave contract, the lack of promotions and care for NewJeans, and more. However, during the court trial, it became apparent that there wasn't enough evidence to prove the allegations HYBE made towards Hee-jin, especially the one regarding the audit.
While many people believed that the feud between HYBE and ADOR's CEO subsided with the end of the court trial, recent reports seem to hint at the reignition of the feud. HYBE has reportedly filed charges against Min Hee-jin and two other individuals for embezzlement, and investigations are currently ongoing at the Yongsan Police Station.
