On Tuesday, December 24, 2024, South Korean social media app Weverse released its Weverse magazine featuring an exclusive interview with BTS' j-hope. The latest interview came out following the teaser release on December 23. In the interview, BTS’ j-hope touched upon several topics relating to his military training, Seokjin’s first solo album, his 2022 Lollapalooza Chicago performance, and more.

BTS' j-hope also talked about his trip to Los Angeles shortly after his military discharge on October 17, 2024. He explained why he chose to visit LA in the United States. He added that he enjoyed the California vibe and the laid-back atmosphere of the place. He remarked that he had also visited LA because everyone that people talk about in the music industry lives there.

“I like everywhere in the States, but Cali’s got a vibe of its own that I love. I like the sun, the atmosphere, and how laid-back it is. Plus, all the music people everyone talks about are there. (laughs) Actually, the whole point of me going to the US was connected to my work under the name j-hope, so that’s where I started. It was obvious that LA was where I needed to go,” he shared.

Before joining the military, he wanted to study and work on his music in LA. He went to LA a week after discharge, fulfilling his aspiration, and visited the US briefly while adjusting to life in Korea. Even fitting into American society and mood was difficult for him. He adjusted by doing long-dreamed-about activities.

“It wasn't easy adapting to the culture and getting into the pace and vibe of the US, but then as I started meeting people and using English, and tried doing things I couldn't do before, it just clicked-like, 'Ah, I'm really here and settling in.' As soon as I faced reality, it really hit me just what was happening to me,” j-hope said.

BTS' j-hope also talked about Jin’s first solo album

In the Weverse interview, BTS’ j-hope also commented on Kim Seokjin’s, aka Jin’s, debut solo album, HAPPY, which came out on November 15, 2024. He admired his bandmate's efforts to make his independent record.

“I love watching what Jin's coming out with. He had stuff he wanted to put out but couldn't because he enlisted first, but now that he's doing it, I can see clearly what he wanted to do all along,” he stated.

Furthermore, he revealed his thoughts regarding his other bandmates releasing solo projects to display their distinct musical styles. He mentioned that music is a beautiful method to express oneself. As a result, BTS' j-hope seems happy to watch his bandmates work so hard on their separate endeavors, which he described as inspiring on so many levels.
