The controversy surrounding HYBE is allegedly affecting its employees' job prospects even after they have resigned. According to a current employee's post on the anonymous professional networking site Blind, they shared that a former coworker was recently asked about the leaked HYBE internal report during a job interview at another company.
The post disclosed that a few other former HYBE employees shared their woes of allegedly getting sidelined by job headhunters due to the ongoing controversy. For the unversed, the entertainment company's internal report was brought forward at the National Assembly Audit on October 24, 2024. The report contained 18,000 pages of alleged defamatory remarks against other idol groups.
Aespa, Stray Kids, NCT Dream, (G)I-DLE, former RIIZE member Seunghan, NCT's Haechan, BLACKPINK's Lisa, and NMIXXs' Haewon were among the prominent idols that were mentioned in the document.
The report's 2,000 pages were exposed by the Democratic Party of Korea Representative, Min Hyung-bae, at the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism National Assembly Audit. Since then HYBE has been facing a global public backlash from fans.
HYBE's internal report reportedly mentioned BLACKPINK's Lisa's Crazy Horse performance, Jisoo & Rosé fan wars, and more
As reported by Allkpop on November 2, HYBE's internal report contained segments where it allegedly claimed that the BLACKPINK fandom has a propensity to start pointless arguments over which idols are more valuable than others. Further adding that "Rosé's dating rumor and illegal drug rumor" were spread by Jisoo's fanbase. It read:
"The suspicions that Rosé's dating rumor and illegal drug rumor were both spread by Jisoo's fans has come up again, and is a topic that crawls back up again every once in awhile so it may be a good issue to bring up around right around the timing of her solo promotions."
The report also mentioned that Lisa's public image "collapsed" after she performed at the Crazy Horse Cabaret burlesque show in Paris in September 2023. The report claimed that BLACKPINK members went to cheer Lisa for her performance despite never promoting "themes like girl power or gender issues." The report stated:
"Her public image collapsed after the 'Crazy Horse Show' in Paris.[...] And the other members even went to cheer on her, resulting in a heavy blow for the team's overall image. Despite everything, the issue is bound to quiet down soon since this team was one that never explicitly promoted themes like girl power or gender issues."
The report claimed that IVE has never had a strong group image and their agency was allegedly "desperate" to send them to Na Yeong-suk aka Na PD's broadcast show to talk about their comeback album.
Furthermore, the controversial internal report also mentioned EXO members Baekhyun and D.O., stating that the former allegedly copied BTS' Jungkook's livestream style and D.O.'s appearance on Na PD's show allegedly earned the lowest ratings.
Meanwhile, HYBE CEO, Lee Jae-sang, apologized through HYBE's website for the report stating that the report was created to understand industry trends. Weverse also released a notice on November 9 that the creator of the document was Weverse Magazine's editor-in-chief, who was reportedly fired from his position on October 29, 2024.
