Netflix aired the first episode of its latest K-drama, Love Next Door, starring Jung Hae-in and Jung So-min. Viewers were thrilled with the episode 1 plot of the new rom-com as clips from the show went viral online. On August 18, 2024, netizens flooded X, praising the K-drama and Jung Hae-in's role.

Love Next Door is the first rom-com for the South Korean actor, Jung Hae-in, who is well-known for his contemporary series such as D.P. Snowdrop, Something In The Rain, and One Spring Night along with Korean films like Tune in For Love.

At the end of episode 1, Jung Hae-in's character Seung-hyo leaves Seok-ryu's home with a smile after knowing that she called off her wedding and has returned to Seoul from the US. Viewers praised the scene and his smile and endearingly called him a "loser in Kdramaland."

"OMGSGDD another loser in kdramaland?? I can't wait to watch the episodes tomorrow"

For the uninitiated, "loser" in K-drama means a lead hero who is head-over-heels in love with the female lead.

Others expressed similar thoughts and deduced that the smile at the end of episode 1 in Love Next Door meant that Seung-hyo was always in love with Seok-ryu since they were kids.

"I think I watched him smile like this first time. HAEIN, you should do more lighthearted shows. I swear my man is always suffering in his dramas/movies," one X user wrote.
"This is definitely the look of a boy who has been in love with the girl next door his whole life," another X user wrote.
"I just know he’s not getting to know someone cause it’s always been seokryu," one other X user added.

Some fans also highlighted that the smile showed how Seung-hyo had already planned his wedding with Seok-ryu in his head.

"He's already planning his wedding with seokryu in his head here," another X user commented.
"Seung hyo's expression when he congratulates seokryu for her wedding vs when he knows seok-ryu has called off her wedding. That's literally his widest smile in the entire episode," one X user said.
"Happiness is: finding out that your childhood crush has called off her wedding and is back in the neighborhood," one other X user wrote.

More about Jung Hae-in and Jung So-min's latest Netflix drama Love Next Door

Love Next Door episode 1 showed Seok-ryu (Jung So-min) returning from the US. Her family wasn't aware of it and she crossed paths with Seung-hyo (Jung Hae-in), who was returning to his new office after winning the Best Architecture Award.

The episode was about Seok-ryu hiding from her parents, afraid to confront them and explain the reason for her return. However, after dodging them the entire day and annoying Seung-hyo, she bumps into her mother, who overhears Seok-ryu and Seung-hyo.

Seok-ryu tells her baffled mother that she called off her wedding and also quit her high-paying job at a US company. His mother uses a bunch of leeks to hit her, but Seok-ryu uses Seung-hyo as her shield. Seung-hyo kept getting thrashed by the leek and hit by Seok-ryu's mother while her father kept fainting on the road, adding laughter to the scene.

Fans were also delighted to see South Korean rapper and singer, Lee Seung-hyub, in Netflix's Love Next Door. He plays the younger brother of Seok-ryu. Previously, Lee Seung-hyub played the role of In-hyuk, Ryu Sun-jae's childhood best friend in the popular tvN drama, Lovely Runner, starring Byeon Woo-seok and Kim Hye-yoon.

Love Next Door is available on Netflix for global streaming and episode 2 will come out on August 18, 2024.
