On January 8, 2025, the South Korean actress Chae Soo-bin shared a hilarious incident of casting her niece for a scene in the smash hit Netflix series When The Phone Rings.

She disclosed the information in an exclusive interview with the media outlet SPOTV News on January 8. The female artist mentioned that the latter cried when she held her niece for a particular drama shot. She added, as translated by X user @ciabyscene:

"It was actually good because she had to cry in the scene. As expected, she cried when I held her. "

For those unversed, Chae Soo-bin played the character of a leading protagonist in the romance-thriller series When The Phone Rings. She portrayed the role of Hong Hee-joo.

The drama premiered from November 22 to January 4, 2025. It revolved around a show window couple whose monotonous life became unstable after getting a threatening call from a kidnapper. She acted alongside Yoo Yeon-seok, who took the role of Baek Sa-eon.

Chae Soo-bin expressed pride in acting chemistry with her niece for When The Phone Rings

During the exclusive interview, the female artist revealed that she made good memories with her niece during the filming set. When she learned that there was a scene of singing to calm down a sobbing baby at the orphanage, she inquired from the director whether the casting for the kid had been done. In response, the director said no, to which Chae Soo-bin showed him a picture of her niece.

Subsequently, When The Phone Rings' maker agreed to her request, the actress was able to cast her niece. The artist further expressed pride in her acting and onscreen chemistry with the child. She added, as translated by X user @ciabyscene:

"She was a little shy, so it was rather good. She's okay with her grandmother, mother, and father, but she cries with me. It was actually good because she had to cry in the scene. As expected, she cried when I held her. Our acting chemistry is the best, isn't it?"

Chae Soo-bin disclosed how she had to seek permission from family members to cast her niece in When The Phone Rings. She added, as translated by X user @ciabyscene:

"My mom is the leader at home. I was worried and asked my mom if it's okay to have my niece appear on the show. She said it was good, and my sister and brother-in-law also really liked it. She has to experience how hard her aunt earns money."

The romance-mystery series When The Phone Rings is available to stream on Wavve and Netflix.
