The latest episode of RAIN's variety show Season B Season (시즌비시즌) 4 unveiled an anecdote about BTS which is currently going viral among the group's fans worldwide.
Released on Thursday, August 8, segment no. 41 featured the artist on a trip to the US, during which he sat down for a meal at a famous Korean restaurant in LA named Ahgassi Gopchang. RAIN and his crew spoke on several topics to the place's owner over a barbecue.
The restaurant's interior showed a wall full of autographs by celebrated K-pop groups, including RAIN's autograph at the center of the entrance, cementing it as a well-known celebrity eating spot. Gradually, the show's PD asked the owner when the restaurant came into being, and the latter replied 10 years ago.
When asked if it has always been brimming with customers from the start, the owner replied that it was after BTS visited the place that the customers started coming in bulk. Moreover, he explained that the demographic has shifted from mostly Korean to a more foreign clientele.
"The guests used to be only Koreans back then, but after BTS came, there are almost no Koreans now. Most of our customers are foreigners now."
The owner even showed the PD a video of Jin promoting the restaurant during a 2017 interview with The Morning Mess. The information took no time to spread among the Grammy-nominated group's fans, ARMYs, as they began reacting to the story on social media. One of the amazed fans stated,
"Bangtan impact"
Others also started discussing the same, pointing out the group's "paving-the-way" incident,
"Just paving-the-way things..." stated a fan on X.
"BTS IMPACT OF SOLD OUT KING IS REALLY SOMETHING TO BE FEARED ABOUT," another post said.
"Every thing bts touch goes top," claimed another ARMY.
Many more chimed in about how they visited the place because of the K-pop band, while one even quoted Jin's famous line from the 2017 video,
"You know Agasshi Gopchang??" an X-user quoted Jin.
"I went to this restaurant… because of BTS," a comment read.
"it's true! wait times to be seated were around two hours after BTS mentioned it and photos were released after their visit. my army daughter once visited from the east coast and of course she wanted to go!" shared one netizen.
BTS' Jin's playful promotion of Ahgassi Gopchang during a 2017 interview led to a boom in the restaurant's clientele
In the new Season B Season episode, after the owner revealed that BTS's effect resulted in a large number of customers, he pulled his phone out to show the program's PD a video from 2017. It was when the Dynamite group got interviewed by The Morning Mess on the LIVE 101.5 Phoenix YouTube channel.
In that interview, all seven members were asked where they would like to eat in Los Angeles. At that time, Jin answered, "Ahgassi Gopchang," describing it as "LA's No. 1 Korean restaurant." In RAIN's video too, Jin's voice from the clip could be heard on the owner's phone saying his now famous dialogue,
"Ay, you know Ahgassi Gopchang?"
Revealing the septet's backstage interview's impact on the business, the owner described how the members were pretty young when they first stepped into the restaurant five to six years ago. Furthermore, the group went there to eat every day during their stay. Their admiration for the place has led the restaurant's customer profile to change from majorly Korean to mostly foreign customers.
Speaking about the worldwide scene of Korean eating places being admired and visited by foreigners, RAIN noted,
"These days there are so many foreigners lining up at Korean restaurants that Korean people cannot eat there"
The rest of the episode showcased the popular singer-songwriter recalling memories of LA and the days he was auditioning for Hollywood films. Following the Rainism artist's trip down memory lane, he bought a ticket to LA's Muscle Beach and exercised there.
In other news, BTS' Jin was appointed as the new Global Brand Ambassador for the Italian luxury fashion brand Gucci on August 7. At the same time, he is also working on his upcoming solo debut album (KSJ1), aiming for a release towards the end of 2024.
