"Best news I've heard in a long time"- Fans excited as Netflix announces stop-motion animation series My Melody & Kuromi   

On January 9, 2025, Netflix announced the stop-motion animation series My Melody & Kuromi through the official X account, sending the fandom into a frenzy. The ten-second teaser featured the two animated Sanrio characters donning pink attire and wearing a black beanie.

While the former was spotted enjoying cake, the latter was seated on a couch, carrying a serious expression. The upcoming series would breathe life into the famous characters of Sanrio, namely My Melody and Kuromi.

The Netflix show would be released to commemorate the 50th and 20th anniversaries of My Melody & Kuromi, respectively. It would revolve around the characters embarking on a series of adventures in their home, Mariland.

Subsequently, the latest news about the forthcoming program circulated on social media and went viral among the fandom. They could not contain their excitement, and an X user tweeted:

"Best news I've heard in a long time. And I can't be more excited."

The fandom stated that Netflix's latest announcement about My Melody & Kuromi made their 2025. They flaunted that they would keep discussing the upcoming series.

More about Netflix's upcoming series My Melody & Kuromi

For those unversed, My Melody has been described as a cheerful, straightforward girl who cared deeply for her younger brother. She has a habit of baking cookies with her mother. She made her official debut in 1975. Meanwhile, Kuromi made her official entry into the world in 2005. She was My Melody's self-proclaimed rival and despite being a troublemaker by personality, she has feminine traits.

My Melody & Kuromi was helmed by the director Tomoki Misato, who expressed his excitement about the project to Netflix on January 9, 2025. He added:

"I’m thrilled that this project is finally announced in this important year marking the 50th anniversary of My Melody and the 20th anniversary of Kuromi!. "This momentous project motivated all of us to come together, take on various challenges, and push the envelope with stop-motion. I hope everyone will enjoy this exciting story set in our handcrafted Mariland, the thrilling action that pushes the limits of stop-motion, and, of course, the cute and dynamic characters."

The show was produced by Toruku and marked the first stop-motion animated series to be produced by the studio. Subsequently, the screenwriter Shuko Nemoto conveyed her deep affection for Melody and Kuromi. She mentioned to the Netflix:

"Having My Melody and Kuromi speak lines I wrote felt like a reward for me as a writer. Because of the pandemic, I couldn't meet with Director Misato or the producers in person. But we connected remotely each week, carefully building this together. The project is filled with love for the world of My Melody, beloved by people of all ages. I believe everyone, from adults to children, will have favorite scenes and lines."

Additionally, My Melody & Kuromi also sent messages to the fans through the Netflix press release. The former mentioned that their animation with Kuromi-chan would kick-start this summer. She wanted to bring lots of excitement to all of her friends. She urged the viewers to look forward to the series. Meanwhile, Kuromi concluded the press release with the following words and mentioned:

"A new anime with My Melody and Me is starting! All you KUROMIES around the world, you’re gonna watch it, right? Don’t miss my cuteness."
