On December 17, the high-end watch company Omega announced the appointment of Danielle Marsh, a NewJeans member, as the newest global ambassador. The latest appointment came shortly after NewJeans terminated their contract with their agency, ADOR, which is owned by HYBE. While sharing the news of Danielle’s ambassadorship, Omega wrote her name as Danielle Marsh, omitting the mention of ADOR and NewJeans.
Meanwhile, ADOR shared the news of Danielle’s ambassadorial status through a post on its social media account. Fans quickly noticed these details in both posts shared by ADOR and Omega. Consequently, Danielle’s fans and other supporters of NewJeans flooded the internet with their opinions. One user on X commented:
“As it should be! The GIRLS ARE BIGGER THAN HYBE! #jeanzforfree FOR THE WIN!”
Many other mixed reactions were seen online. While some were happy to see the members of the girl group doing well individually, others stated that ADOR had not yet cancelled the contract of the girl group, thus they shared news of Danielle’s ambassadorship on their social media page.
“Its amazing how the girls already can stand independently,” stated an X user.
“Ador promoted it still because they refuse to accept the cancelled contract, so still pretend that they’re their artist - hoping for court reversal. But this feels like it will be the first of many new brand deals or existing contracts renegotiated independently for the girls,” commented a fan.
“they getting that bag without fraudor, its crazy to me how people could think they'd be jobless if they left,” wrote a fan.
“They are still under Ador that is fact. the contract is still under Ador fyi,” commented an admirer.
Some expressed their gratitude for the watch brand for supporting the girl group, while others passed sarcastic remarks on ADOR sharing Danielle’s latest appointment. Some fans also observed how Omega unfollowed the previous account of ADOR’s NewJeans and started following their new account on Instagram, which was created after ending their contract with the label.
“thank you for supporting independent artists,” expressed another fan.
“ador posting about it and getting ignored is kinda funny,” wrote a fan.
“The brand ONLY followed #jeanzforfree. They are CONFIDENT that the contract termination with ADOR is LEGITIMATE, as independent artist the girls now can work with any brands. OMEGA would not risk entering into a deal that could lead to potential legal complications,” another fan stated.
NewJeans announced the termination of their contract with ADOR on November 28
NewJeans held a press conference to announce their contract termination with ADOR on November 28, 2024. HYBE and its division ADOR failed to meet their conditions by the deadline, so they ended the agreement effective November 29, 2024.
"The deadline for our corrective action request ended at noon today, but it appears that HYBE and its current agency Adore will not make any improvements or accept our demands," the girl group said.
The five-member ensemble also said they would progress with their next activities and release new music throughout the year.
For those unaware, the dispute began in April 2024 when HYBE accused Min Hee-jin of attempting to take over ADOR. Min Hee-jin held a press conference, alleging that HYBE created a “toxic work environment” for NewJeans and misappropriated their work to form ILLIT. She was fired as ADOR CEO on August 27.
Despite being offered a producer position by Newjeans, Min Hee-jin resigned as ADOR CEO on November 20. After her departure, the girl group terminated their exclusive contracts with ADOR on November 28.
