BigHit Entertainment has officially confirmed that the individual in the recently circulated CCTV footage from DongA Ilbo is indeed BTS' Suga. Speaking to TV Daily, BigHit released a statement acknowledging the identity of the person in the video.
On the morning of August 14, 2024, DongA Ilbo released new CCTV footage, initially identifying the man as the BTS member. Shortly after the video surfaced, it was confirmed that the person seen is indeed him.
This new footage has introduced a significant development in the ongoing investigation into Suga's alleged DUI incident, challenging the initial claims made by DongA Ilbo. Contrary to their earlier statement, which claimed that the electric scooter driver was speeding towards Namsan along the road near the Nine Hannam complex, the confirmed footage shows Suga falling while attempting to make a left turn.
DongA Ilbo footage featuring Suga, confirmed to be true
TV Daily's reporter Kim Jong-eun on August 14, revealed that DongA Ilbo have made an error in reporting an alleged DUI incident involving BTS member Suga. According to CCTV footage released by JTBC Newsroom via Dong-A Ilbo on the 14th, he fell while making a left turn towards the main gate of Nine One Hannam in Seoul on an electric scooter at around 11:10 PM on the 6th.
Nearby police officers found him and checked his alcohol levels before allowing him to return home. This statement was made by the star himself too in the apology he had posted via Weverse. BigHit Music confirmed that the man in the video was indeed Suga.
This report contradicts the initial story aired by JTBC's Newsroom on the 7th, which claimed that the driver in the video was speeding towards Namsan. In reality, he slowly made his way home on the sidewalk along the wall of Nine One Hannam, following a different route with a different scooter model. The video in question has since been removed.
Reports claiming the BTS member crashed into a curb and that he traveled 1.5 km before returning home, were also found to be inaccurate. He did fall while making a left turn but quickly got up and put on his helmet. Contrary to some media claims, he was not taken to the police station for questioning but only underwent a breathalyzer test on the spot before being escorted home.
The police agency has also released a statement on the same saying the blood alcohol levels cannot be confirmed. For now, the case faces a slight alleviation due to this newfound confirmation by TV Daily and BigHit. This seems like a good news for both Suga and the BTS fans.
This also marks the second time JTBC Newsroom has made an error involving BTS. In December 2019, the program incorrectly reported that BTS members were considering legal action against BigHit Music over profit distribution. At the time, Newsroom admitted that their report was premature and accepted the criticism.
