Porsche will release a limited 'Taycan' edition in Korea, designed by BLACKPINK's Jennie. On July 9, 2024, South Korean media outlet ZDNet Korea reported that Porsche intends to issue only 50 units of the 'Porsche Taycan' in South Korea's five major cities, such as Seoul, Busan, Gwangju, Sejong, and Jeju Island.
'The Porsche Taycan' will be released in the Korean market along with the 'Taycan Partially Modified' model. Furthermore, the limited-edition Porsche Taycan will feature an element of each Korean city, such as the Namsan Tower and the Lotte Tower in Jamsil.
In 2022, the luxury car brand's Korean branch created the limited-edition model in collaboration with the BLACKPINK idol under its Sonderwunsch special manufacturing program.
Porsche x Jennie brings limited edition 'Porsche Taycan' to major South Korean cities
Porsche Korea and BLACKPINK's Jennie created the 'Porsche Taycan' in 2022, based on the Taycan 4S Cross Turismo. The model was customized at the Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur workshop in Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen.
The Meissenblue paint job on both the exterior and interior of the car, along with the personalized "Jennie Ruby Jane" insignia created by the BLACKPINK idol, are some of its distinctive features. Additionally, the K-pop rapper added "NiNi" to the car's back doors. The center console and seat headrests also feature her unique cloud motif.
The model was named 'Taycan 4S Cross Turismo for Jennie Ruby Jane," and the Sonderwunsch model was originally unveiled at the Sonderwunsch Haus on October 12, 2022, ahead of BLACKPINK's BORN PINK world tour.
ZDNet Korea reported that the limited-edition Porsche Taycon will offer customers customization options. Porsche Korea's CEO, Holger Gerrmann, stated,
"The Taycan offers many personalization options and has the unique feature of allowing you to create a special vehicle through various choices. We will have to wait and see what surprising news they can bring regarding the Korean edition."
Porsche's latest initiative, Sonderwunsch, which translates to "special request" in German, enables customers to customize the car. The deposit for Sonderwunsch alone is around 100,000 euros (150 million won). The car's price ranges from $113,095 (156.5 million won) to $213,695 (295.7 million won).
ZDNet Korea reported that the Korea Automobile Importers & Distributors Association (KAIDA) stated that since the Taycan's 2021 introduction, more than 1,000 cars have been sold annually. With 1,805 units sold in 2023, the flagship Taycan model held a market share of more than 10%.
In other news, the BLACKPINK idol debuted on the runway of the Jacquemas LE CASA fashion show in Capri on June 10, 2024. She released the behind-the-scenes video, A Moment in Capri with Jennie, on her official YouTube channel on July 4.
