Emmy Awards 2024 nominates BLACKPINK's Jennie-starring The Idol for dance choreography
The 2023 HBO series The Idol has been nominated for Outstanding Choreography for Scripted Programming, showcasing Jennie's role as Dyanne dancing to Lily-Rose Depp's track World Class Sinner.
The scenes nominated by the Television Academy Awards include the rehearsal, music video shooting, and dollhouse sequences. Jennie appears in the rehearsal scene, practicing the dance routine with Lily-Rose Depp's character, Jocelyn.
The same choreography is also featured in the music video shoot within the series, where the SOLO singer participates as well. Consequently, her contribution to the nominations is significant. The BLACKPINK member also won the Best Actress in an International Series at the SEC Awards 2024 for her portrayal of Dyanne in HBO's The Idol.
On the other hand, the rapper-actor made her Cannes debut in 2023 alongside the show's cast, dressed in Chanel. The show premiered at the festival as one of four 'Out of Competition Selections' in the 76th Cannes Festival.
More about the series The Idol
The Idol, an HBO show released on June 4, 2023, features a star-studded cast including the BLACKPINK's Jennie member, Abel Tesfaye (The Weeknd), Lily-Rose Depp, Suzanna Son, Troye Sivan, and Jane Adams. Directed by Sam Levinson, the series ran for five episodes and follows the story of Jocelyn (Lily-Rose Depp). She develops a complicated relationship with Tedros (Abel Tesfaye), who runs a modern club.
Despite the initial buzz, the show faced heavy criticism for its bold scenes and mature content after the first few episodes aired. Significant creative changes occurred during its production, with Levinson taking over the direction and reshaping the series.
Jennie also faced significant controversy and online trolling for her involvement in a show of that nature, especially considering that South Korean channels typically refrain from broadcasting such content on their platforms. Ultimately, the second season was canceled in August 2023.
The 76th Emmy Awards ceremony will be live-streamed from the Peacock Theatres in Los Angeles on September 15, from 5-8 p.m. PT / 8-11 p.m. ET on ABC.
