On July 23, 2024, Apple TV released a trailer for the second season of the popular show Pachinko. Rosé's fans were thrilled after watching the clip as they heard a snippet of Coldplay's 2008 song Viva La Vida, sung by the BLACKPINK member. The new season features well-known actors including Lee Min-ho, Kim Min-ha, and others.
While the trailer highlighted this cover, Apple TV+ confirmed in a press release that Rosé’s rendition will be featured in the season 2 finale of Pachinko. The statement read:
"The trailer debuts a brand-new moving cover of Coldplay’s 'Viva La Vida' by global superstar Rosé of the record-breaking K-pop group BLACKPINK. In addition to debuting as the series’ trailer anthem, Rosé’s cover is featured in the 'Pachinko' season two finale."
Rosé also took to Instagram to share the news with her fans, as she reposted the trailer on her story through her handle, @roses_are_rosie.

Following the release of the trailer for Pachinko season 2, the vocalist of BLACKPINK took to her Instagram broadcast channel to share her excitement about her upcoming cover of Coldplay’s 2008 hit, Viva La Vida. She mentioned that she was honored that the track was featured in the trailer and the finale of the second season, and hoped that fans would enjoy her work.
"Hi my loves, I am soo so excited to share with you this special project I did with @appletv, Pachinko season 2. I feel honored to be part of the trailer and finale of the second season of this award winning and globally acclaimed drama series, Pachinko on apple tv. I hope you all look forward to season 2 and enjoy my cover of Viva La Vida," she said.
Produced by Media Res and available in Korean, Japanese, and English, Pachinko season 2 will premiere globally on Apple TV+ on August 23, 2024. The eight-episode season will air one new episode each week, with installments releasing every Friday through October 11, 2024.
This isn’t the singer’s first time singing a cover of the song. She previously performed it as the inaugural track for her 'Live Studio Cover' series on her YouTube channel in February 2022. The cover has now garnered nearly 25 million views. The other songs featured in that series include:

It has been officially confirmed that all four BLACKPINK members have ended their contracts with their former label, YG Entertainment.
