On January 4, 2025, the UK publishing house, The Sun, reported that North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has allegedly banned hot dogs in the country for being “too Western.” According to reports, anyone found selling these items on the open market or preparing them at home faces deportation to labor camps.

The news of the hot dog ban soon went viral on the internet. Subsequently, netizens flooded the internet with their amusing remarks on the leader and his actions. One user on X commented:

“Bro the glizzy gatekeeper”

Several netizens made amusing remarks on North Korea’s hot dog ban. Some people seemed doubtful about whether North Korea even had hot dogs. Many said Kim Jong Un wanted to save all hot dogs for himself so he banned them in the country.

“When it’s said and done. He will go down as a top 3 hater ever,” one user on X stated.
“Like they had f’ing hot dogs in NK in the first place. He’s so attention starved it’s crazy. “Prease take me serious - I’m very serious world reader, I ban your hot dog to prove”,” another fan commented.
“RIP to all the glizzy goblins in North Korea,” stated a netizen.
“Can you imagine if this, THIS was the thing that caused an uprising and overthrows his a** of the throne? Would be wild! #keephotdogsinNK,” commented another X user.

While one speculated that Kim Jong Un might have banned hot dogs due to his hatred towards the US, another pointed out that the leader plays games with “his country and his people.”

“he so dedicated to hating the US. i admire him,” stated an X user.
“This guy likes playing games with his country and his people,” remarked a netizen.
“I heard a rumor its because they are his favorite foods and he doesn't wanna share,” another X user comnented.

Kim Jong Un allegedly banned hot dogs in North Korea to prevent the spread of Western culture

As per recent reports by The Sun, North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has prohibited North Koreans from consuming hot dogs as part of a campaign against the infiltration of Western culture into the hermetic nation.

Although hot dogs have gained acceptance in South Korea, Kim Jong Un has subsequently proclaimed that distributing sausages constitutes a charge of treason against North Korea.

Besides, glizzy (slang for hot dog) isn’t the sole culinary item to face a ban in the country. Earlier, Kim Jong Un prohibited the retailing of budae-jjigae, a South Korean-American fusion meal composed of an umami-rich broth, Korean hot pepper paste, kimchi, and American Spam, beans, and sausage.

In November 2024, Radio Free Asia (RFA) reported that North Korea has also prohibited the consumption of tteokbokki, a famous street dish in South Korea made from steamed rice cakes.
