IDOL was released on August 24, 2018, through Big Hit Entertainment as the title track of the band's third compilation record, Love Yourself Answer (2018). Additionally, a separate version of the track, featuring the Trinidadian-born singer and rapper Nicki Minaj, was incorporated as the bonus track on the digital version of the record.
