South Korean broadcasting network MBC faced massive backlash after it removed BTS' Suga from the band picture during its popular variety show Where is My Home. The broadcaster used an old picture of BTS from its 2020 album, BE, promotion when Suga was absent from group activities due to shoulder surgery.
The BTS ARMY was enraged to see the network use an old BTS picture of the six members and claimed that MBC tried to remove Suga. Fans flooded social media as the news went viral online. One ARMY wrote on X,
"BTS is 7 understood"
Others voiced similar sentiments and demanded that MBC treat the Haegeum rapper with respect. They highlighted that BTS is a seven-member group and trended the hashtags #BTS_is_7, #ARMYStandsWithSuga, and #ARMYisOne online.
"At this point we army should boycott those media who ignore the fact that bts is seven. if you cant treat each members equally and respect them we should boycott them," one X user wrote.
"I am honestly sick and tired of the way Yoongi is being treated!! They are overreacting!!! Its time to let it go!! Stay strong Yoongi," another X user added.
"All I know is those kmedia and everyone that said trash about my yoongi must and should be sued if he can’t do it ARMYS can we will help him," another X user said.
ARMYs also said they would boycott MBC for such "disrespectful" behavior towards BTS and its rapper.
"This is why the public thinks MBC is a joke. Also, they fixed it within hours," another X user stated.
"As it should how dare they? BTS should boycott it after they are back from the Army. That's so freaking out of order Who does MBC think it is to be doing something so disrespectful?" another X user wrote.
Samsung posts new pictures of BTS' Suga, debunking rumors of his replacement
Earlier, several rumors circulated online about BTS' Suga's replacement as Samsung's brand ambassador due to his DUI mishap. Reportedly, Samsung Electronics Germany and Samsung Deutschland removed pictures of the BTS rapper, resulting in netizens' speculations regarding his removal.
The pictures showed the idol promoting Samsung's latest Galaxy S24 Ultra smartphone. However, on August 31, 2024, Samsung Paraguay posted the idol's latest pictures from his pre-filmed "Freestyle 2nd Gen projector" ad campaign on its official X account. This further disproved rumors of his replacement.
The idol is currently serving in the South Korean military. He enlisted for alternative mandatory service on September 22, 2023, as a social service worker due to his shoulder injury. He is set to be discharged in June 2025.
