On Tuesday, December 24, Billboard Korea was criticized for allegedly excluding BTS' SUGA from a recent Instagram post. On the same day, Billboard Korean reposted an edit made by a fan on their official Instagram account, @billboard_korea. However, the reel failed to include the rapper of the group, SUGA.
Many fans were angered by the same. While fans were not happy with Billboard Korea for forgetting or leaving out the idol in a video that's set to represent all the members of the band, they were all the more displeased with the timing of the mishap.
Given that the idol was recently involved in a DUI case, several campaigns took place that demanded the removal of the member from BTS. Therefore, when Billboard Korean posted a reel without the BTS rapper, fans thought that the magazine was seemingly supporting these demands and advocating for the K-pop idol's removal from BTS.
Fans also starting to kickstart trends such as 'BTS IS SEVEN' on X to bring more attention to the issue. However, the magazine soon deleted the Instagram reel and reuploaded another version of the fan video after including SUGA. They also apologized to BTS and SUGA fans who were disappointed by their actions.
Regardless, fans were still unhappy with the incident that occurred. Here are a few fan reactions on the same.
"i’m about to throw HANDS. billboard korea just posted this on their instagram and PURPOSEFULLY edited out the yoongi part that was originally in the reel. BTS IS SEVEN WE LOVE YOU YOONGI," wrote a fan.
"hope whoever is in charge or responsible for that was punished or fired idk lmao," said a fan on X.
"apologizing without giving a context to the public displays no accountability AT ALL. @billboardkorea. care to explain why are you apologizing??? added another fan.
"Please it is always important to be loud on this topic, never let anyone try to silence you, this is why it is important," commented a netizen.
More fans and netizens talked about how though they were happy to see the apology from Billboard Korea, they were still frustrated with the incident and the magazine's manner of apology.
"Apology not accepted but u better not make this (your so called) mistake again, @billboardkorea. saying this 7899383727191011838376373 times f*k you sk !!" stated a fan.
"Nah i want heads to roll, someone wanted him edited out, someone edited, someone approved that sh*te and someone posted it. They ALL need to be fired amd publicly shamed to learn a lesson," added an X user.
"they went out of their way to edit him out like there’s genuinely no excuse for that," commented another fan.
"Nah i need a hand written letter with tear stains … a fckn apology via a tik tok description aint enough…," added another user.
All you need to know about BTS SUGA's DUI case
On August 7, it was reported that BTS rapper and K-pop soloist, SUGA, was charged with DUI for driving an electric scooter under the influence. In an apology letter regarding the same, the idol explained that he was unaware that it was illegal to drive the electric scooter under the influence.
Additionally, he also stated that he chose this form of transportation as he left the studio after having drinks with his friends and took the closest transport. He also added that his house was approximately 500 meters from his studio. While no one was hurt during the idol's drive, in front of his house, SUGA lost his balance and fell from the electric scooter.
A nearby patrol police who witnessed his fall approached him and took a breathalyzer test. When the test came out positive, the idol was charged with DUI, and his license was revoked. Following the same, private investigations on the case were conducted around September. The case was then moved to prosecution.
The case was concluded after the Seoul Court sentenced the idol to a fine of 15 million won ($11,500). While the DUI case has been officially closed, tensions and discussions around the matter are still prevalent among netizens.
