BTS' J-hope was set to make his first public appearance after completing his mandatory military service by throwing the ceremonial first pitch at the second game of the 2024 Korean Series. The game, between the Kia Tigers and Samsung Lions, was originally scheduled for October 22 at KIA Champions Field in Gwangju, the idol's hometown.
However, the event had been postponed to October 23 at 6:30 PM KST due to heavy rainfall, as reported by South Korean media outlet Sports Chosun. J-hope, who has long expressed his love for Gwangju and the Kia Tigers, was excited to be part of this special occasion.
This event was particularly important as it marked the first time a BTS member would throw a ceremonial pitch in Korea's KBO League. His connection to the team is well-known, especially through BTS' song Ma City, in which he references his hometown and the Kia Tigers. The lyrics read:
"Jeollanam-do Gwangju baby - Put KIA in, start the engine, and bounce like crazy."
BTS' J-hope's recent military discharge and upcoming activities
The postponement comes after Game 1 of the Korean Series was suspended on October 21 due to rain. Despite the weather forecast predicting more rain on October 22, KBO officials remain hopeful that conditions will improve enough to proceed as planned.
J-hope’s participation in this event, which has previously featured high-profile figures, adds more significance to the occasion. Fans are eagerly awaiting the moment, which will now take place a day later than expected.
For those unaware, BTS' J-hope officially completed his 18-month military service on October 17, 2024. After enlisting in April 2023, the rapper-dancer was discharged in good health and took the opportunity to express his gratitude. He thanked his fans, the public, and reporters who had gathered to cover the event. In a brief interaction with the media, J-hope shared his appreciation.
"I have to say a word of thanks. Firstly, thank you so much. I was discharged from the military in good health. Thank you really. I want to thank all the reporters who came this long way. And I was able to finish the service well and in good health thank to the fans," he said.
He also reflected on his role as an assistant drill instructor, recalling how citizens in Wonju would cheer for the soldiers during their marches. J-hope encouraged the public to continue supporting South Korea’s armed forces, acknowledging the hard work of long-term military personnel.
Following his discharge, he held a live session on the Weverse app to connect with fans. As of now, there are no official upcoming events scheduled for the idol, though speculation is growing that he may already be working on new projects.
Fans are also eager to see what both the rapper and fellow BTS member Jin, who has also completed his service, will share next.
