Meanwhile, Smeraldo Garden Marching Band topped the YouTube Music videos trending worldwide chart on June 29 across 43 countries, including France, the United Kingdom, Spain, Costa Rica, and more.
The track's video showed HYBE's longstanding music producers Pdogg, GHSTLOOP, and Evan in a cameo, along with the South Korean rapper Loco as its feature artist. Additionally, on its opening day, the song reached #1 on the iTunes Worldwide chart in over 100 countries in 3 hours.
Jimin gives a nod to The Beatles' Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band in his new song
Smeraldo Garden Marching Band is a tribute to the eighth studio album by The Beatles, Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, was released in May 1967. The British band released the album focusing on contemporary music and psychedelic imagery as a way to reinvent themselves outside of 'The Beatles.'
Jimin's solo repertoire, which started with the release of his debut solo album FACE in March 2023, has extended to his forthcoming arrival at MUSE. The tribute is significant as the BTS idol is on his journey to reinvent himself as a solo artist outside of BTS.
The Beatles retired from touring permanently in August 1966 and pursued solo endeavors for the next three months. Paul McCartney conceived the inspiration for the Sgt. Pepper concept during a trip back to London in November. The song involved an Edwardian military band and touched upon cross-generational themes through music.
After the title track was recorded, the album was then roughly envisioned as a performance by the imaginary Sgt. Pepper band. Similarly, Jimin introduced the 'Smeraldo Garden Marching Band,' which included HYBE music producers Pdogg, GHSTLOOP, and Evan. These three producers also collaborated on the BTS idol's debut solo record, FACE.
Since Jimin began his mandatory 18 months of military service in December 2023, the release and introduction of the 'Smeraldo Garden Marching Band' mirrors the conceptualization of Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. Furthermore, in the track video of Smeraldo Garden Marching Band (feat. Loco), the BTS idol channeled a suit inspired by the British band with a high-ankle length hem.
Previously, the Like Crazy singer-songwriter was seen purchasing a record of Abbey Road Vinyl by The Beatles during his interview with Vogue in 2023 ahead of his appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. In his interview, the GRAMMY-nominated BTS idol mentioned how The Beatles inspired his music and journey as an artist.
In other news, Park Jimin of BTS will return from the military in June 2025 and reconvene with his band to resume group activities.
