On May 30, 2024, BTS’ Jin was reported to have led trainees for their religious activities at the Buddhist military chaplain. The media outlet BBS Innovation News covered celebrities like Yoo Jae-suk, Kang Ho-dong, and more who are connected to Buddhism. The BTS vocalist was mentioned as he has reportedly been helping as an assistant at the Buddhist military chaplain.
Jin is deployed at the 5th Infantry Division, which is located in Yeoncheon, Gyeonggi Province. As per BBS Innovation News, he is not an official personnel of the Buddhist Military Chaplain; however, many trainees participate in religious activities at the training center. Jin is reportedly assigned to lead the trainees to the temple for their activities at the center.

The eldest member of BTS began his military service journey on December 12, 2022, as the first among his fellow members. He is reported to have performed his duties in an exemplary manner through his training period and deployment at the 5th division.
Jin worked as an Assistant Drill Instructor and led many new recruits. Later, after clearing multiple assessments, he was honored with the title of Elite Class Warrior and given an early promotion. With this early promotion, the singer also served as a Corporal.
On his 31st birthday on December 4, 2023, Jin greeted his fans through a post on Weverse, expressing his gratitude for fans while revealing his position in the military. He was promoted to the rank of Sergeant four months earlier than the schedule in December 2023.
“I'm Sergeant Kim Seok-jin, who served in the military at an early age once more with outstanding military life,” he wrote in his message.
The singer is set to return on June 12, 2024, a day before BTS’ 11th debut anniversary on June 13. Moreover, all the members of the K-pop septet are expected to reunite in 2025.
Wootteo makes a comeback on Instagram before BTS' Jin's military discharge
On May 28, 2024, Wootteo, the promotional character of BTS’ Jin, returned to Instagram for the first time in 18 months since its last post was published on November 15, 2022. Wootteo was a character presented during the solo song The Astronaut's release before the BTS member's enlistment.
The posts showcased an image illustrating Wootteo with his friends Hyatu, Deodeum Munji, Urureo, and Dyari. The post was captioned,
“It's been a long time. How are you all?”
Another post illustrated Wootteo repairing his spaceship. On May 30, another post was shared on Instagram, in which the character is seen sleeping on his bed with pictures of Jin and Wootteo on the wall.
Many netizens and fans online have speculated an upcoming project by Jin following his military discharge in June due to Wootteo's latest Instagram activities, specifically with the British band Coldplay.
Coldplay's Chris Martin is known to have penned The Astronaut's lyrics. During his world tour, he showcased his bond with the Jin by carrying the Wootteo toy.
Recently, Coldplay was seen donning black T-shirts with Wootteo patches, raising fan speculation regarding a potential collaboration with Jin. However, BIGHIT MUSIC has not yet addressed the rumors about the collaborations.
