BTS' Jungkook's 'GOLDEN' becomes the first album by an Asian soloist to be certified Gold in France for 50,000 sales units

On July 23, 2024, Jungkook’s solo debut album, GOLDEN, received the prestigious SNEP gold certification for selling 50,000 album units in France. This achievement made him the first-ever Asian solo artist to attain this feat.

The album also became the first Asian solo album to achieve this. The SNEP Gold Certification is an award given by the National Syndicate of Phonographic Publishing (Syndicat National de l'Édition Phonographique, or SNEP) in France.

Jungkook's GOLDEN receives "gold" certification in France

SNEP is the French organization responsible for representing the interests of the recording industry and for tracking the sales and distribution of music in France. It recognizes the commercial success of a music recording, such as an album, single, or music video.

The process involves the collection and verification of sales data from various sources, including retail sales, digital platforms, and streaming services.

This prestigious recognition was bestowed upon the BTS maknae, Jungkook after his solo debut album, GOLDEN performed well in the French music market. As France is considered to be one of the eight biggest music markets in the world, this achievement by the album is as crucial as it can get.

On July 23, SNEP took to social media to announce that GOLDEN has officially sold out 50,000 album units in the country. The achievement only doubled when it was announced that it is presently the only album by a Korean soloist to ever enter this chart. Earlier, in April of this year, Jungkook’s song Seven surpassed 15 million streams and received the SNEP gold certification. The numbers for a song and an album differ as far as their qualification is concerned.

In terms of song, Jungkook was the 3rd ever Asian soloist to achieve that feat. However, in terms of the album, he has peaked the stage by becoming the first and only one to attain it with 50,000 album units sold.

The only albums by Asian soloists in history to land a top10 hit on France’s SNEP main albums chart are:

Just a couple of weeks ago, on July 7, GOLDEN also became the fastest album by an Asian act to have all tracks sell over 100K units in US history. Additionally, in April 2024, it also became the most streamed album by an Asian solo artist on Spotify, surpassing 3 billion streams.
