BTS’ Kim Taehyung's first solo album Layover was platinum-certified by the Recording Industry Association of Japan. On October 10, the Recording Industry Association of Japan updated the Gold Disc certification list where albums that cross a certain number of shipments to Japan in the last month get a certification.
According to Dispatch's October 10 report, Kim Taehyung's Layover attained Platinum certification from the RIAJ after it shipped around 250K units in the country itself. Notably, this milestone was achieved one year, one month, and two days after its release on September 8, 2023.
Layover is an album that illustrates the individual artistry of the BTS vocalist consisting of R&B and soul tracks like Rainy Days, Blue, Love Me Again, Slow Dancing, For Us, and Slow Dancing (Piano Ver.). The album has received appreciation from fans across the globe.
In May 2024, Layover became the first album by a K-pop solo artist to have all the tracks surpass 100 million streams on Spotify. Notably, the pre-release track Love Me Again achieved over 800 million streams on Spotify becoming Kim Taehyung’s first song to reach this feat.
BTS’ Kim Taehyung's Layover vinyl version dictates Oricon Daily Album rankings on the day of its release
Recently, BIGHIT MUSIC announced the release of Layover Vinyl to commemorate the first-anniversary release of BTS’ Kim Taehyung's solo debut album. According to the Viewers' October 7 report, the LP version of the album topped Oricon Daily Album rankings on September 30, 2024, on the first day of its release in Japan selling over 221,491 copies.
Furthermore, the album title track Slow Dancing also reigned the Daily Digital Single Rankings on the Oricon charts, as it created a huge buzz among Japanese fans of the K-pop idol. Other B-side tracks Blue, For Us, Slow Dancing (Piano Ver.), also ranked 4th, 5th, and 6th on the chart.
Layover also secured the top spot on Amazon Japan's imported album sales rankings as well as the latest imported album sales rankings. On August 21, 2024, Just one day after its pre-order went live, the Vinyl version was sold out on BTS's Official Japan Store and Universal Music Japan platforms, it also sold out multiple times after being restocked.
The LP version is also available for pre-orders in the USA which will be released on October 18, 2024. Following The Viewers’ report on October 8, the Layover Vinyl version sold out on the BTS USA Official Store, Weverse Official US Store, and one of the major retail chains, Target, during the pre-order sale.
BTS’ Kim Taehyung's recent activities
V aka Kim Taehyung is currently serving in the military as a part of the Special Duty Team. He is assigned to the military police unit of the 2nd Division Military Police Corps located in Chuncheon, Gangwon-do.
On Wednesday, October 9, Kim Taehyung attended the 2024 KT & G Sangsang Unive: Night of Harmony Orchestra event. He was spotted alongside his fellow troop members entering the venue.
The clips and videos of the Slow Dancing singer's attendance captured by G1 live started circulating on social media and eventually went viral among the fans. Previously, on September 22, 2024, he was seen attending IU's Seoul concert along with his fellow BTS member J-Hope. Meanwhile, Kim Taehyung is expected to be discharged from his military duties in 2025.
