According to a recent survey, BTS was declared the only K-pop group to be the representative singer of Korea across all age groups, with 61% votes. The online survey, titled Who is the representative singer of Korea?, was held on July 15, 2024, and thousands of South Korean netizens between the ages of 18 and 70 participated in the poll.

Additionally, according to the poll, six out of 10 people between the ages of 18 and 19 selected BTS as their response. After the survey concluded, it was determined that BTS earned the highest ranking across all age groups, including teens starting at age 18 and those in their 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s, 60s, and even older than 70.

The survey also listed South Korean artists such as Cho Yong-Pil, Lim Young-Woong, Na Hoon-Ah, BLACKPINK, IU, NewJeans, PSY, and Lee Mi-Ja chosen by the citizens after BTS. Meanwhile, artists such as Lee Hyori, IVE, Nam Jin, and aespa were the only ones who received less than 10 percent votes.

Here are the votes earned by the K-pop groups and Korean soloists listed in the survey:

BTS paving the way for South Korea on the global landscape

The K-pop sensation from HYBE made waves globally with their chart-topping music and support from their massive fandom, ARMY. They were the first K-pop group to win the American Music Awards (AMAs) for Favorite Pop Duo or Group and the Favorite K-Pop Artist in 2022. The septet has won a total of 11 American Music Awards as of 2023.

They have won 13 Asia Artist Awards (AAA), 12 Billboard Music Awards (BBMAs), 26 The Fact Music Awards, 5 Golden Disc Awards, and 52 MAMA awards, among others. The group has won 525 awards since its debut in 2013 and holds the record for most Daesang wins.

In 2019, they became the youngest recipient of the South Korean Order of Cultural Merit. Furthermore, they were designated as Special Presidential Envoys for public diplomacy by South Korean President Moon Jae-in in July 2021.

Time also named BTS the 'Next Generation Leaders' in their October 2018 edition, making them the first Korean act to feature on the esteemed magazine cover. In 2019, they were listed in the Time 100 list and were named the 'Entertainer of the Year' in 2020 as well.

Additionally, BTS is the only Korean act to have charted six songs at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and entered over 26 songs in the list between 2017 and 2022. Tallying the solo songs from each band member, the group has entered 26 songs on the Billboard Hot 100. Their scores are:

  • Jin (1)

In other news, the band's eldest member Kim Seok-jin was discharged from the military on June 12, 2024, and j-hope will return from his service in October 2024. Meanwhile, Namjoon, Jimin, SUGA, Jungkook, and Taehyung will be discharged from their military service in June 2025.
