"I wanted to show a more diverse range of films" — Busan International Film Festival programmer discusses BTS' RM's documentary release
According to a South Korean media outlet, NEWS1, "RM: Right People, Wrong Place" was introduced as a selected work for the Open Cinema section at a press conference held on September 3, 2024, at the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Seoul.
Kang So-won, the festival’s programmer, explained that the film stood out from other Korean documentaries due to its unique perspective and would offer a fresh experience for the festival audience. He stated:
"This film was an official entry, and when I saw it, I thought that although it would be difficult to digest in the wide angle section because it has a different feel from films made by the Korean documentary community, I thought it would be an enjoyable experience for the audience in the open cinema."
He further noted that this marks only the second time a documentary has been featured in the Open Cinema section, emphasizing its appeal to both fans and the general public.
"As far as I know, this is only the second time a documentary has been screened at an open cinema," and "That's why I wanted to show a more diverse range of films, and I thought that this documentary would be enjoyable for not only the fandom but also the general audience," he added.
Kang So-won also mentioned that while RM is currently serving in the military and would not be attending the festival, the film's director and other contributors would be present to engage with attendees.
Meanwhile, RM is preparing to release a new collaborative track with American rapper Megan Thee Stallion, titled NEVA PLAY, scheduled for September 6, 2024.
