On June 17, the American music and entertainment magazine Billboard named BTS' RM's latest record, Right Place, Wrong Person, as the best album of 2024. The outlet released an article titled 'The 50 Best Albums of 2024 (So Far): Staff List' on their official website.

Meanwhile, another renowned publication, Rolling Stone, also crowned Kim Namjoon's Right Place, Wrong Person, as the Best Album of 2024 in their recently released article, titled 'The Best Albums of 2024 So Far' on June 11. It featured a list of 63 albums by worldwide renowned artists.

BTS' RM's album Right Place, Wrong Person has been "one of the richest albums released in 2024"

Kim Namjoon's second studio album, Right Place, Wrong Person, was released on May 24, 2024, through Big Hit Music. The eleven-track album featured LOST! as the leading single and featured well-known producers, including Simbiatu Ajikawo, BJ Wnjn, Domi and JD Beck, Icecream, JNKYRD, Kim Han-joo, Lee Tae-hoon, Nancy Boy, Moses Sumney, and others.

Billboard's deputy editor Andrew Unterberger described BTS' Kim Namjoon's Right Place, Wrong Person as a "leap forward" for the singer.

"RM’s 2022 official debut solo album Indigo was a promisingly lush and varied entrance in its own right, but this May’s Right Place, Wrong Person is still a massive leap forward for the solo star."

The sub-editor further elaborated on Namjoon's creative vision and described Right Place, Wrong Person, as one of the richest albums released in 2024, stating:

"While BTS pushed at the boundaries of K-pop for much of the group’s career, RM simply refuses to acknowledge the existence of any such boundaries over these 34 minutes, with 11 songs that careen from hip-hop to jazz to punk to R&B to Fela Kuti-styled Afrobeats — while all still sounding like a coherent and natural artistic extension of one man’s creative vision. Right Place is one of the richest albums released in 2024, and cements RM’s place on the vanguard among similarly genreless artists like Tyler, the Creator, Kali Uchis, and WILLOW."

Similarly, Rolling Stone also praised Kim Namjoon's album, and writer M. Johnston wrote the following about the singer's latest release:

"On his heady second solo album, RM interrogates the relationship between his world-conquering presented self and the “ordinary young man named Kim Namjoon” that he might’ve been. His lyrical ride is made even more mind-expanding by the music laid down by RM and his collaborators. Right Place, Wrong Person is psychedelia-tinged and soulful, its lyrics’ intense self-interrogation balanced by music that feels like an invite to further explorations."

Following the release of Right Place, Wrong Person, the album debuted at number two on the Circle Album Chart and sold over 585,000 copies, including its two versions. It also debuted and peaked at the number two position on the Oricon Albums Chart, and sold over 23,000 copies.

Subsequently, on June 15, 2024, the idol penned down a heartfelt letter through the South Korean social media platform where he talked about his thoughts, Jin's discharge, the OT7 reunion. He also discussed how he was unable to personally address the opinions regarding his second full-length album, Right Place, Wrong Person. As translated by X user @btsinthemoment, the singer wrote:

"This is my first work where I haven't been able to tell you my thoughts on things myself. There are a lot of things I want to say, but because they're all written in the album. It's an album where I struggled in an attempt to just become entirely truthful with myself. It would be great if you could read it over and over for a long time. Please."

BTS' Kim Namjoon began mandatory conscription on December 11, 2024, alongside fellow group member Jimin. He is expected to be discharged in 2025.
