More about BTS' Suga and his ongoing DUI controversy
Min Yoongi, aka Suga, was charged with drunk driving an electric scooter on August 6, 2024, with a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of 0.08%. After weeks of scrutiny and public backlash, he was summoned by the police for questioning on August 23. He was questioned for 3 hours from 7.45 PM to 10.54 PM (KST).
The BTS rapper apologized to the media outside the precinct, which enraged his fans as they lashed out on the Korean media for illegally gathering outside the police station. They trended hashtags and streamed his songs to show their support for Suga. Newsis reported that international media called out Korean media outlets for allegedly targeting the BTS rapper.
On August 26, 2024, TV Chosun reported that the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport confirmed that the electric scooter that Suga was riding did not require a license plate.
For the unversed, any vehicle that does not require a license plate cannot be termed a transport vehicle. Significantly, a foldable electric kickboard is a mobility device and doesn't need a plate.
Meanwhile, the police have concluded the interrogation procedure and confirmed that the BTS rapper will not be called in for questioning any further. The case has been forwarded for prosecution.
