On Monday, September 30, the court responded to BTS SUGA's DUI case with a summary judgment. The court's summary judgment issued the K-pop idol with a fine of 15 million KRW, approximately 11,500 USD. Summary judgments are often issued in cases of minor infractions and often bypass a trial.
Therefore, a suggestion to pay a fine is recommended to BTS' SUGA. If the idol accepts the judgment and pays the fine, then the case gets closed. However, if it gets rejected, the idol can request a formal trial within seven days after the court's order.
Previously, on August 7, the K-pop idol was charged with DUI for driving an electric scooter under the influence. On August 23, he made his first public appearance after the charges at the Yongsan Police Station for investigations.
During his appearance, he addressed his DUI case and apologized for the disappointments he might have caused to his fans and other netizens. Here's what he said:
"I'm sorry. I sincerely regret disappointing many people. I will cooperate fully with the investigation. Once again, I'm sorry."
All you need to know about BTS SUGA's DUI case
On August 7, a police report landed on the internet regarding BTS SUGA's involvement with a DUI case. Previously, on August 6, the idol was reported to have driven an electric scooter under the influence.
After having a few drinks with his friends at his studio, the idol chose to opt for an electric scooter to commute back to him, which was approximately 500 meters away. He also expressed, through the apology letter he released through Weverse on August 7, that he chose the electric scooter as it was the closest choice of transportation.
He also stated that he wasn't aware that it was illegal to ride an electric scooter while being drunk. While no one was hurt during the idol's drive back home, he reportedly fell from the scooter while making a turn in front of his house. Though SUGA soon recovered from his fall, the nearby patrol police who witnessed the same approached the idol and took a breathalyzer test on him.
When the test came out positive, the idol was charged with a fine and his license was revoked. Furthermore, he was also charged with DUI which later led to private set investigations at the Yongsan Police Station. Both BTS' SUGA and BigHit Music released statements apologizing for the idol's actions.
"Due to this incident, I have greatly damaged the precious memories I made with the members and fans and put a lot of pressure on the name of the BTS. I feel so sorry and painful that it's hard to express because it's causing damage to the members and the team."
SUGA continued,
"I'm sorry that the members who have always trusted me have a hard time because of me. And I know the disappointment of the fans that supported and supported me must have felt."
Regardless, the idol's response to the court's summary judgment is yet to be revealed.
